AWS Backend Engineer

You will work on the development of a new cloud-native backend component in an environment where Java, Spring Boot, AWS and event-driven architecture come together. The solution is being developed within a business-critical environment and needs to be delivered within the planned project phase. The architecture and technical setup are not yet fully defined. Therefore, we are specifically looking for an experienced engineer who can not only deliver high-quality software, but also actively contribute to architectural decisions, technical design and integration strategy. Your Role As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and delivering a new backend solution. Your responsibilities will include: Designing and developing cloud-native backend components on AWS; Developing applications and services using Java and Spring Boot; Building and maintaining event-driven integrations using Kafka and Axual; Integrating modern applications with existing and legacy systems; Working with AWS services such as S3, IAM, CloudWatch, AWS Batch, SQS/DLQ, Docker and ECR; Testing, monitoring and optimising the solution towards production; Contributing to architectural decisions and technical design; Ensuring high standards of quality, security, stability and maintainability; Sharing knowledge with colleagues and supporting less experienced engineers where appropriate.

We are looking for a senior-level engineer who can take ownership and operate independently in a complex technical environment. You bring: Extensive experience as a Java Backend Engineer / Software Engineer; Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot; Proven hands-on experience with Axual and Kafka - mandatory; Strong experience with AWS; Experience integrating modern applications with legacy systems; Experience within banking, financial services, fintech or another highly regulated environment; Experience with cloud-native and/or event-driven architectures; The ability to independently solve complex technical challenges; The ability to contribute to architecture and technical design discussions; Professional fluency in English. Nice to Have Professional proficiency in Dutch; Experience with coaching and knowledge transfer; Experience working on complex integration challenges within enterprise environments. Axual & Kafka - Mandatory Hands-on Axual experience is an absolute requirement for this role. We are specifically looking for someone who has used Axual and Kafka in real-world professional projects. General Kafka experience alone is not sufficient. If your background includes demonstrable experience with Axual, Kafka, Java/Spring Boot and AWS, we would be very interested in speaking with you.
