Job description
The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical execution and delivery of Software Factory projects and initiatives. Acting as the primary technical interface between engineering teams and Delivery Management, the Project Engineer coordinates project activities, manages technical risks and dependencies, and ensures successful delivery against agreed scope, schedule, quality, and business objectives.
Key Accountabilities and Objectives Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate technical activities across engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Monitor project execution, risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
- Support the development and management of project plans and technical roadmaps.
- Provide technical leadership and first-level technical decision making.
- Act as the primary escalation point for engineering issues.
- Manage technical interfaces with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Support project reporting, forecasting, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure adherence to agreed engineering processes and standards.
- Facilitate technical reviews and milestone assessments.
Lifecycle Management
- Track execution against project objectives and delivery milestones.
- Contribute to effort estimation and resource planning activities.
- Support workload prioritisation and capacity management.
- Escalate risks, issues, and schedule impacts appropriately.
- Ensure project deliverables meet agreed quality criteria.
Governance
- Ensure compliance with engineering governance, processes, and standards.
- Support configuration and change management activities.
- Communicate project status, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and delivery teams to ensure alignment.
Requirements
Security Clearance: Active SC clearance is mandatory DV clearance is preferred. The role requires on-site work and support for sensitive MOD/aerospace programmes. Aerospace and Defence Experience: Demonstrable experience delivering architecture or engineering solutions within MOD, Defence Digital, UK aerospace, or similarly regulated environments. Location: Reading, with a minimum of 50% of time required on site., * Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years’ experience in software, systems, or platform engineering projects.
Desirable Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure DevOps certification.
Skills and Experience Essential
- Software engineering and systems development experience.
- Experience in software delivery environments.
- Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD practices.
- Technical leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Risk and issue management experience.
- Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills.
Desirable
- Experience within aerospace, defence, automotive, or other regulated industries.
- Familiarity with model-based development environments.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
