Job description

We are looking for an experienced Commercial IT Associate / Senior Associate to join our Commercial IT/IP team.

With in-depth, industry-focused expertise, the team advises on a wide range of high profile and high value commercial/ICT projects, outsourcing arrangements and general commercial contracts, for both public and private sector clients. In an increasingly complex and competitive commercial landscape, the team is helping more and more clients keep pace with change, making this an exciting time to join.

You will be part of an expanding team, currently lead by five partners, and will have the opportunity to play a key role in the firm’s ambitious growth plans., As a Commercial IT Associate or Senior Associate, you will:

  • advise on a wide range of commercial, technology and IT matters (including software and technology licensing arrangements, SaaS, Artificial intelligence, complex IT transactions, business process outsourcing and digital transformation projects); and
  • frequently work with Central Government bodies (and range of arms’ length bodies and executive agencies), NHS bodies, local authorities and housing associations, as well as private sector companies particularly in the independent health sector

You will also have the opportunity to get involved with data protection and cyber security advice, alongside intellectual property focussed transactions (including assignment, licensing and co-existence arrangements and joint development and commercialisation agreements).

Your remit will be broad and interesting, offering extensive client contact and responsibility from the outset. Throughout, you’ll be well supported in an experienced, inclusive team.

In particular, your role will include:

  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team on a key client’s major, mission critical outsourcing programme of work, led by Partner, Richard Lane, which is set to run for the next 2-3 years
  • Leading on a range of interesting and varied projects with other partners within the team and across other teams within Bevan Brittan
  • Supervising junior members of the team on a range of commercial agreements

Requirements

The successful candidate will be a Commercial IT Associate / Senior Associate with a minimum of 6 years PQE. You will be a qualified solicitor with the following skills:

  • Significant experience in drafting and negotiating contracts (including IT contracts), including relevant expertise in managing large scale technology transformation projects
  • Expertise in commercial and IT transactional projects and contract management support
  • Demonstrable experience supervising and supporting junior members of the team
  • A team player, able to build strong relationships with colleagues and clients, coordinating advice with other fee earners across a wide range of disciplines
  • Demonstrable experience building strong client relationships and contributing to the growth of a practice
  • the ability to provide practical and commercial legal advice, taking into account client requirements and regulatory landscapes
  • A proactive, curious and self-motivated mindset, with an interest in technology and emerging areas like AI
  • Experience advising within the public sector space and using public sector templates is an advantage
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage time, competing demands and multiple projects effectively
