Job description

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Google team delivering Unity platform support for an Android-based ecosystem which spans mobile to laptop form-factors and everything in between. Our mission is to enable Unity developers to bring their titles seamlessly across these devices while taking advantage of each device’s unique characteristics. We want games to make use of the full screen space, naturally use the input methods of the device and plug-in to the services available in the ecosystem.

The team will also research and deliver runtime optimizations which make Unity games start faster and run well on low and high spec devices. We will do this by establishing benchmarks, collaborating with internal and external experts to perform deep analysis on Unity engine performance on the platform and then align with the appropriate stakeholders to land measured improvements.

Where appropriate, the team will leverage AI workflows in its analysis and delivery. And we will be enabling targeted AI workflows for our developers to get the best from their target platform.

This role is a combination of technical leadership and people management. The right person will attract, develop and retain high quality engineering talent at all levels. If you thrive on shaping software that is loved and used by millions, and leading the engineers who build and maintain it, then we’ve got a great job opportunity for you!

What you’ll be doing

  • Own and drive the near-term execution and technical strategy for the team
  • Collaborate internally with core Unity engine, platform, and graphics teams
  • Communicate your team’s vision and progress internally and externally
  • Foster a high-performance, supportive culture by mentoring and coaching your team, actively guiding their professional development and career growth.

Requirements

  • Experience developing and managing a high-performance software engineering team
  • Proven technical knowledge in Android platform technology across native C/C++, Java and Kotlin layers
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with internal Product owners and external partners to achieve alignment on benchmarks, technical specifications and interdependencies.
  • Expertise as a software engineer, and a working familiarity with C++, C# and Java
  • Ability to assimilate and understand a large and complex software product, * Familiarity with real time 3D rendering techniques and graphics APIs including Vulkan
  • A methodical approach to prioritizing and developing innovative optimization solutions
  • A passion for the future of computer games or real-time 3D experiences in a variety of settings
  • Expertise leading remote teams using Agile development methodologies
  • Familiarity with when and how to best use AI in the software development process.
