Job description

This is a genuinely hands-on senior networking role, rather than a position dominated by BAU support tickets.

You’ll take ownership of network installation and migration projects from design through to delivery, alongside contributing to internal datacentre and ISP projects, product R&D and complex technical escalations.

Current and upcoming work includes large multi-site Fortinet and Cisco Meraki deployments, SD-WAN migrations, datacentre projects and changes associated with the organisation’s infrastructure platform migration. The team has recently taken on projects covering more than 200 sites, so there’s plenty of interesting project work to get involved with.

You’ll also work across the ISP environment, including BGP, peering, transit and edge connectivity, while acting as a senior technical escalation point when particularly complex networking issues arise.

Requirements

  • Strong senior-level Network Engineering experience, ideally within an MSP, ISP or service-provider environment
  • Excellent BGP knowledge including peering, route policy and production troubleshooting
  • Cisco routing and switching experience
  • Cisco Nexus / NX-OS and datacentre networking
  • Fortinet including FortiGate and FortiManager
  • Firewalling, NAT, IPSec VPN and SSL VPN
  • VLANs, STP, EIGRP and network redundancy / HA
  • Strong troubleshooting and customer-facing communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience with SD-WAN, Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Ubiquiti UniFi, Sophos XG, Cisco ASA / Firepower, VMware or Hyper-V would also be useful.

Benefits & conditions

The position also forms part of a 24x7 out-of-hours on-call rota, with a separate on-call allowance and paid callout payments in addition to the £60,000 - £65,000 base salary.
