Job description

The candidate will

Develop and refactor portions of core libraries using C++ as well as other languages such as C#.
Work with other programmers to report software problems and suggest software features.
Create solutions that are well designed, well documented and well tested.
Work with others in an object oriented, extreme, agile programming environment., Develop and maintain geospatial water resources web applications using Python-based open-source web frameworks (e.g., Tethys, Django), front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, D3, JavaScript), and SQL relational databases to process and visualize scientific data. Use open-source development methodologies including version control tools such as Git, GitHub, and/or GitLab to collaboratively develop water resources projects. Review and analyze scientific water resources literature to extract technical requirements and translate into custom software implementation. Write and maintain technical documentation for water resources software systems, internal APIs, and development workflows.

Requirements

BS in Computer Science or related degree or equivalent experience.
Excellent understanding of and experience with object oriented programming.
Detail oriented with attention to process and design methodology.
Understanding of software development process and methodologies.
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and maintain good relationships.

Preferred Skills

Experience in software development, preferably using C++.
Ability to adequately address user interface issues.
Ability to do unit test driven development.
Configuration management experience with Subversion, and Source Safe.
Experience analyzing, documenting and designing software system architectures.
Qt, VTK, OpenGL and MFC., Bachelor’s degree in software development, computer science or a related field. Foreign equivalent degree accepted. Demonstrable ability to use Python programming. Demonstrable ability to use JavaScript, including JavaScript visualization libraries such as D3 with HTML and CSS to develop interactive user interfaces and geospatial data visualizations. Demonstrable ability to use open-source development methodologies including version control tools such as Git, GitHub or GitLab. Demonstrable ability to review and interpret scientific literature to understand research methodologies and technical requirements. Demonstrable ability to use SQL for data analysis and relational database management.
