Job description

Our Network Engineers physically work in customer environments throughout West Virginia. You will regularly work in schools, government facilities, MDFs, IDFs, network closets, data rooms, and other customer locations.

You should be comfortable doing hands-on work such as racking and connecting switches, installing and replacing wireless access points, staging equipment, participating in network cutovers, testing infrastructure, and troubleshooting live customer environments.

If you are looking for a work-from-anywhere networking position, this is not the right role.

If you enjoy working with real infrastructure, solving networking problems, and seeing the systems you build operate in the real world, we want to talk to you., Advantage Technology is looking for a Network Engineer I/II to support K-12 schools, state and local government organizations, and enterprise customers throughout West Virginia.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who already understands networking fundamentals and wants to continue developing into a higher-level enterprise network engineer.

You may already be configuring switches, wireless networks, firewalls, VLANs, or network infrastructure today. You may come from corporate IT, K-12, higher education, government, an ISP, telecom, or another technology environment.

You do not need experience with every technology we use.

What matters most is that you understand networking, enjoy troubleshooting, are comfortable working hands-on, and want to continue developing your skills.

What You’ll Work With

Our networking environments include technologies such as:

  • Extreme Networks
  • Extreme Fabric Connect
  • ExtremeCloud IQ
  • Cisco
  • Cisco Meraki
  • HPE Aruba
  • Juniper Mist
  • Fortinet / FortiGate
  • Enterprise switching and routing
  • High-density wireless
  • VPN and WAN connectivity
  • Network segmentation

Experience with Extreme Networks is especially valuable, but it is not required. Strong experience with Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, Meraki, Juniper, or similar technologies can translate very well into this position.

What You’ll Do

Depending on your experience and technical ability, you may:

  • Install, rack, connect, and configure enterprise switches
  • Configure VLANs, uplinks, trunks, routing, and redundancy
  • Install and replace wireless access points
  • Support high-density wireless environments
  • Stage and configure switches, firewalls, and wireless equipment before deployment
  • Troubleshoot Layer 1 through Layer 3 network problems
  • Diagnose wired and wireless connectivity issues
  • Support network refresh and modernization projects
  • Participate in network migrations and production cutovers
  • Configure and troubleshoot VPN and WAN connectivity
  • Assist with firewall and network segmentation projects
  • Test and validate completed installations
  • Work in MDFs, IDFs, network closets, and other infrastructure environments
  • Document customer networks and completed work
  • Work alongside senior engineers, project managers, field technicians, and structured cabling teams
  • Travel to customer sites throughout West Virginia based on project requirements

K-12 & Public-Sector Networking

A significant part of this position involves supporting schools, municipalities, state and local government, and other public-sector organizations.

Projects may include:

  • Campus network upgrades
  • Core and access switch refreshes
  • Wireless modernization
  • MDF and IDF upgrades
  • Multi-building connectivity
  • Network segmentation
  • Internet and WAN migrations
  • Network cutovers
  • Wireless coverage and performance improvements
  • Troubleshooting production network problems

You will have the opportunity to work on networks that may support hundreds or thousands of users across large campuses and multi-building environments.

Requirements

You may be a strong candidate if you have experience with some combination of:

  • Ethernet switching
  • Enterprise or business Wi-Fi
  • VLANs
  • IP addressing and subnetting
  • DHCP and DNS
  • Routing
  • Firewalls
  • VPNs
  • WAN connectivity
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Network equipment installation
  • Cisco, Extreme, Aruba, Meraki, Fortinet, Juniper, or similar platforms

You should also:

  • Enjoy troubleshooting difficult technical problems
  • Be comfortable working hands-on with network infrastructure
  • Be comfortable working in MDFs and IDFs
  • Be willing to travel to customer sites throughout West Virginia
  • Be able to communicate professionally with customers
  • Work well independently and as part of a technical team
  • Take pride in organized, professional installations
  • Be motivated to learn new technologies and take on increasing responsibility

You Do Not Need to Check Every Box

We are not looking for someone who already knows every technology on this list.

Someone with strong networking fundamentals, technical aptitude, hands-on experience, and a desire to learn can be an excellent fit.

Candidates with experience in corporate IT, K-12 technology, higher education, government, telecom, broadband, ISP environments, or field networking are encouraged to apply.

Certifications

Certifications are helpful but are not required if you can demonstrate strong technical ability.

Relevant certifications may include:

  • CompTIA Network+
  • CCNA
  • Extreme Networks certifications
  • Fortinet certifications
  • HPE Aruba certifications
  • Juniper certifications
  • CWNA

Benefits & conditions

  • Designing complete network solutions
  • Leading customer implementations
  • Performing complex network migrations
  • Designing wireless environments
  • Deploying Extreme Fabric
  • Leading production cutovers
  • Troubleshooting complex network problems
  • Serving as the technical lead on customer projects

At Advantage Technology, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers while gaining exposure to technologies and environments that can significantly expand your networking career.
