Material UI Figma Data Management

Job description

GS1 UK is looking for a hybrid UX/UI Designer to provide flexible, project-based support for My Numberbank, our core membership service for managing GS1 identifiers, barcodes, QR codes powered by GS1 and trusted product data. This is not a continuous 12-month contract; we expect defined periods of work over the next year, starting with an initial 6-8-week phase and followed by further packages as priorities emerge. The role would suit someone who can balance other client work and engage with GS1 UK during active design phases, producing clear, member-friendly Figma designs for stakeholder review and QWARE implementation using MudBlazor.

My Numberbank is GS1 UK’s core digital service for members. It enables users to assign and manage GTINs and GLNs, generate compliant barcodes, create QR codes powered by GS1, maintain product data, and share trusted information through services such as Verified by GS1. The next phase of product development will enhance how members manage richer product data, use-case-specific attributes, validation feedback and data exports.

This is not a pure graphic or web design role. It requires a blend of UX thinking service design awareness, product design capability and hands-on UI execution. The designer will need to work collaboratively with GS1 UK product, standards, marketing and technical stakeholders, and with a QWARE UX developer who will implement the agreed designs using the MudBlazor library. Designs should therefore be practical, component-aware and suitable for build within the existing My Numberbank technology approach.

  • Map end-to-end member journeys for key My Numberbank workflows, including product data entry, attribute grouping, use-case filtering, validation feedback and data export journeys.
  • Translate complex requirements into simple, intuitive and accessible digital experiences for GS1 UK members, including SMEs and larger organisations with more complex product data needs.
  • Create wireframes, user flows, interaction patterns, UI components, clickable prototypes and detailed Figma designs ready for stakeholder review and developer handover.
  • Design clear information architecture for product data screens, including category-relevant tabs, attribute groups, completeness indicators, guidance text and validation states.
  • Support use-case-based experiences for areas such as AI chatbot readiness, HFSS, DRS, SEO/AEO, EU 1169, Digital Product Passport and Verified by GS1.
  • Apply GS1 UK brand, web design and accessibility expectations consistently across all design outputs.
  • Collaborate with GS1 UK stakeholders and a QWARE UX developer to validate that designs are buildable, scalable, aligned with roadmap priorities and suitable for implementation using the MudBlazor library.
  • Prepare clear design rationale, annotations and handover notes so developers understand intended behaviour, states, hierarchy and edge cases., The first major package of work will support Phase 1 MVP of the wider product data management enhancement programme. This includes designing experiences for category-relevant product data tabs, additional product attributes, use-case filtering, attribute-specific validations and use-case-specific exports. The designer will need to ensure that the experience reduces complexity for members while supporting future growth in attributes, categories, regulations and data-sharing requirements.
  • Show attributes, tabs and guidance only when relevant to the product category and selected use case.
  • Keep filtering as a visibility layer so underlying product data is not duplicated or changed unnecessarily.
  • Help members get product data right first time through clear guidance, validation feedback and completion indicators.
  • Design for future scalability, including additional attributes, new use cases, regulatory requirements and product data services., We are looking for someone who combines strategic UX thinking with strong hands-on design execution. The ideal candidate will be curious, structured and confident working with complex subject matter. They will be able to listen carefully to stakeholders, challenge constructively where needed, and create designs that make My Numberbank easier, clearer and more valuable for members.

They should be comfortable moving from early journey mapping and wireframing through to polished interface design and handover. They should also be able to demonstrate previous examples of complex digital journeys, form-heavy interfaces, data-led products or service design work where user clarity and practical delivery were equally important.

Measures of Success

  • Members can complete product data tasks more confidently and efficiently.
  • Use-case filtering reduces complexity without duplicating or confusing product data.
  • Validation feedback is clear, timely and helpful, improving data quality and reducing rework.
  • Design outputs are sufficiently detailed for stakeholder review, development and build.
  • The design approach supports future growth in attributes, categories, use cases and regulations.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in UX/UI, product design or digital product design, ideally in B2B, SaaS, membership services, data platforms or complex form-based journeys.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Figma, including components, variants, prototypes, annotations and developer-ready design files.
  • Software skills: Advanced proficiency in Figma is essential, with experience using design systems, components, variants, prototyping, commenting and developer handover features. MudBlazor knowledge: Working knowledge of MudBlazor or similar component libraries, with the ability to design UI patterns that are practical for implementation within a Blazor-based development environment.

  • Ability to simplify complex workflows, data requirements and technical constraints into clear user journeys and practical interface designs.

  • Good understanding of accessibility, inclusive design, responsive design principles, content hierarchy and form usability.
  • Experience working with product owners, business analysts, developers and senior stakeholders in an agile or iterative delivery environment.
  • Comfortable interpreting business requirements, epics, user stories and acceptance criteria, then identifying where UX clarification or design decisions are needed.
  • Experience designing data management tools, dashboards, portals, product information management systems or membership platforms.
  • Familiarity with product data, retail data, regulatory information, structured data, QR codes, barcodes or standards-based services.
  • Experience designing validation patterns, data completeness indicators, export journeys, permission states, bulk import support or complex admin workflows.
  • Ability to work confidently with brand guidelines while improving usability, consistency and visual polish across an existing digital product.
  • Journey maps and user flows covering key member tasks, decision points and interaction paths.
  • Wireframes and information architecture for product data tabs, use-case filters, attribute groups, validation patterns and export journeys.
  • Detailed UI designs, components and interaction states in Figma, including form controls, guidance patterns, warnings, completion indicators and responsive considerations.
  • Clickable prototypes to demonstrate intended journeys, screen flow and key interactions.
  • Developer handover notes, design annotations and rationale to support build by the QWARE UX developer using MudBlazor components.

Working Style

The role will be project-based, with periods of more intensive design activity when packages are active and quieter periods between phases. The designer should be comfortable working independently, asking clear questions, and turning sometimes complex or evolving requirements into practical design outputs. They should be collaborative, pragmatic and able to balance user needs, business goals, technical constraints and delivery timelines.
