Job description

This role focuses on programming and integrating control systems for custom industrial equipment in an OEM environment. You will develop PLC and HMI applications, support machine builds from concept through commissioning, and collaborate closely with engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-quality automation solutions. This position offers the opportunity to work on fully integrated projects for industrial processing and air pollution control systems, supporting projects of varying size and complexity. Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC programs for custom industrial machines from initial concept through startup.
  • Design and implement HMI applications for machine control and operator interfaces.
  • Program using Rockwell Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View (ME, SE, Optix) to create robust and maintainable control solutions.
  • Support machine build activities by collaborating with engineering, fabrication, and assembly teams.
  • Participate in testing and commissioning of equipment to ensure systems operate according to design specifications.
  • Work with engineering teams to integrate control systems into new and existing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and debug PLC and HMI systems to resolve issues efficiently during build, testing, and field deployment.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of programming standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Document control logic, HMI configurations, and system architectures to support future maintenance and upgrades.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in PLC and HMI programming, ideally with a systems integrator or in an OEM machine build environment.
  • Demonstrated experience completing automation projects from start to finish, including programming from scratch, testing, and commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of Rockwell Automation platforms, including Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View (ME, SE, Optix).
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, including logic development, sequencing, and integration with field devices.
  • Experience with HMI programming for industrial applications, including screen design and alarm configuration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug PLC and HMI systems in a production or machine build environment.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems and controls, including control panels, I/O, and industrial networking.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering and cross-functional teams to integrate controls into equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with OEM machine builds or industrial equipment integration.
  • Experience working in an industrial EPC or integrator environment supporting complex projects.
  • Familiarity with developing and maintaining programming standards and best practices.
  • Strong documentation skills for control systems, including code comments, schematics support, and configuration records.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to diagnosing control system issues.

Work Environment You will work in an OEM and industrial project environment that combines design, engineering, fabrication, construction, installation, and commissioning within a single, integrated organization. The company operates as a mid-market industrial EPC contractor, delivering fully integrated project execution for industrial processing and air pollution control systems. Projects range from mid-sized to large-scale, providing exposure to a wide variety of equipment and control challenges. You will primarily use Rockwell technologies such as Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View (ME, SE, Optix) while collaborating closely with engineering and operations teams throughout the equipment lifecycle. The environment emphasizes full project ownership, from concept and design through machine build, testing, and commissioning, offering hands-on involvement with both software and hardware aspects of industrial automation.
