Technical Data Associate Scientist

Sr. Tax Accountant needed to oversee sales, use, and property tax compliance for all legal entities, from data compilation to reviewing filed tax returns. Hybrid schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM (Monday and Friday remote; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday onsite). Candidate must be able to hit the ground running and complete assignments quickly. Conversion to full-time employment possible. Interview conducted by team.

• Oversee sales, use, and property tax returns for all legal entities - from compiling source data to reviewing filed returns
• Collaborate with business units, IT, and third-party consultants to compile accurate data; ensure data ties to general ledger and payment requests from third-party preparers
• Perform tax research and provide taxability guidance to stakeholders
• Respond to tax mailbox (GMB) inquiries within 48 hours
• Write and maintain desktop procedures documenting processes
• File, pay, and track business licenses
• File refund claims for tax on accounts receivable
• Review, approve, and enter tax exemptions into tax determination system
• Troubleshoot purchase order taxability and related tax issues
• Ensure compliance across all states and businesses; evaluate state regulations and accounting practices
• Complete sales and use tax audits, working with auditors from notice of intent through completion; modify taxability in tax systems based on findings
• Identify and implement process improvements within the Sales and Use Tax Department
• Ensure financial reports are prepared and paid accurately and timely to avoid penalties
• Maintain assigned GL account reconciliations, preventing financial risk to the company
• Assist with departmental projects, taking a lead role in planning, coordinating, and facilitating through completion
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Charts)
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Sabrix and/or Vertex experience - preferred
• Knowledge of EDI capabilities - preferred
• ERP experience
• BI/BW expertise - preferred

• Excellent communication skills

• 2-5 years of experience in Accounting/Finance

• B.S. required, with a focus in Accounting/Finance preferred
• CPA - preferred
• Knowledge of SOX controls and compliance requirements
• Understanding of GAAP accounting
• Lean Six Sigma certification - preferred
