Job description

As an HLM Design & Release Engineer, you will own the end-to-end design, testing, and production launch of the mechanisms that open, close, and lock vehicles. You will oversee components for doors, hoods, frunks, tailgates, liftgates, and decklids:

· Design & Package: Use 3D software (CATIA/Teamcenter) to design handles, latches, locks, hinges, strikers, and door checks that fit precise vehicle layouts.

· Manage Suppliers: Partner with Tier-1 manufacturers to ensure parts meet cost, weight, timing, and quality targets.

· System Engineering: Run DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, and tolerance stack-ups (GD&T) to ensure crash safety, water sealing, and NVH standards.

· Launch & Quality Control: Track part releases in WERS/FEDEBOM and solve assembly issues at manufacturing plants using root-cause analysis (8D, 5-Why).

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: 2+ years designing/releasing automotive closure mechanisms (latches, door systems, seat structures) or complex mechanical systems (e.g., aerospace landing gear, heavy equipment mechanisms).
  • Technical Tools: Hands-on experience with CATIA (or 3DX), Teamcenter, and WERS.
  • Requirements: Local to or willing to work onsite 5 days a week in Dearborn, MI, with occasional travel to suppliers or assembly plants., · Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
