Job description
The Interfaces team designs, builds, and supports the integration platforms that form a core part of the organisation?s system architecture. These platforms leverage in-house Java frameworks alongside IBM MQ messaging, API gateway technologies, and file transfer solutions., 1. Development & Engineering
Design, develop, and maintain integration solutions using Java and modern integration frameworks (e.g., Apache Camel, Spring Boot)
Build scalable, resilient message flows and routing logic across distributed systems
Integrate internal and external systems using messaging (IBM MQ) and APIs (REST/SOAP)
Contribute to microservices-based architectures
Ensure adherence to secure coding standards, SDLC, and change control processes
Participate in code reviews and champion engineering best practices
Proven ability to leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot) to enhance productivity, code quality, and delivery outcomes
- Testing & Quality Assurance
Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests (JUnit, Cucumber)
Contribute to test strategy and system test design
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validate test outcomes
Ensure high-quality, production-ready deliverables
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with front-office, back-office, and technology teams to define and deliver integration solutions
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for integration platforms and middleware
Provide 3rd line support and guidance to production support teams
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across tooling, processes, and architecture
- Documentation & Governance
Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation
Ensure all solutions meet internal standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements
Follow established release management and deployment processes
Support audit and compliance activities where required
Requirements
Essential
Strong expertise in Core Java (collections, concurrency, NIO)
Experience with Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate
Solid understanding of integration patterns (Apache Camel)
Hands-on experience with IBM MQ (configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning)
Strong experience building microservices and RESTful APIs
Knowledge of message formats and data transformation (XML, XSD, XSLT, JSON)
Experience with SQL databases and ORM frameworks
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., TeamCity, Git-based workflows)
Comfortable working in Linux environments (bash, SSH)
Understanding of API protocols (REST, SOAP)
Experience delivering systems in a front-office / trading environment
Knowledge of financial products / investment banking domain
Desirable
Experience with Apache Karaf
Exposure to API Gateway technologies
