Job description
The Project / Program Manager III leads the coordination and completion of temporary and permanent power deployment projects across a large fulfillment network. This role oversees multiple concurrent initiatives, including utility upgrades, natural gas generator installations, switchgear deployments, and air permitting across several states. The manager sets project deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors progress, and summarizes program status for leadership. Drawing on extensive experience in power infrastructure and electrical systems, this position combines technical design review, vendor negotiations, and regulatory compliance while directing contractors, vendors, consultants, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable power solutions under diverse site conditions and regulatory environments. Responsibilities
- Coordinate and complete approximately 12 simultaneous power solution projects across multiple U.S. sites, ensuring alignment with overall program objectives.
- Oversee all phases of the power deployment program from feasibility and design through procurement, permitting, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
- Set project and program deadlines, assign responsibilities to internal and external stakeholders, and actively monitor and summarize progress across all workstreams.
- Prepare clear and concise reports for leadership, including weekly updates, monthly flash reports, and executive-level program summaries.
- Lead and direct the work of contractors, vendors, consultants, and cross-functional teams, ensuring accountability to scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Perform a wide range of tasks including technical design review, stakeholder management, vendor coordination, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Ensure all power infrastructure installations comply with internal technical standards, specifications, and design requirements for electrical equipment, switchgear, generators, and associated systems.
- Conduct quality reviews at each project phase to validate adherence to specifications before progressing to subsequent milestones.
- Verify vendor deliverables, shop drawings, and equipment submittals meet engineering standards and technical requirements.
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams to resolve specification questions, obtain approvals, and document any deviations from standards.
- Track and document specification deviations and secure appropriate waivers or corrective actions to maintain compliance and performance.
- Own the end-to-end switchgear procurement process, including specification development, vendor selection, purchase order issuance, and delivery tracking.
- Monitor switchgear lead times and ensure orders are placed to meet project schedules, proactively managing delivery risks when timelines are threatened.
- Coordinate with manufacturers on custom switchgear configurations, voltage ratings, bus configurations, and protection schemes, and oversee factory acceptance testing and delivery logistics.
- Own the air permit application process for sites requiring stationary generator installations, preparing and submitting applications across multiple jurisdictions.
- Track air permit application status, agency review timelines, and approval milestones, maintaining a detailed permit tracking log with submission dates, contacts, and follow-up actions.
- Navigate complex permitting scenarios, including CEQA approvals, non-attainment areas, and emission offset requirements, in partnership with environmental consultants.
- Coordinate with environmental consultants to develop permit applications and emission calculations, and ensure all required emission data is obtained from generator vendors.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and status reports to support effective project execution and decision-making.
- Coordinate contractor mobilization, equipment procurement, and installation activities, ensuring work progresses safely and efficiently.
- Identify and resolve critical path blockers with urgency, escalating issues proactively when they threaten scope, schedule, or budget.
- Oversee deployment of temporary and permanent natural gas and diesel generator systems in the 1-5 MW scale, ensuring proper integration with site infrastructure.
- Manage utility coordination, including transformer upgrades, switchgear installations, and service upgrades in collaboration with utility companies.
- Review and validate electrical designs, single-line diagrams, load calculations, and power distribution configurations for technical accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate natural gas pipeline connections, meter installations, and pressure requirements to support generator operations.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, and local electrical codes across all project sites and installations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for utility companies, general contractors, generator vendors, and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with site-level construction leaders to align power deployment activities with broader property and construction plans.
- Provide regular status updates and program reports to leadership, clearly communicating risks, mitigations, and key milestones.
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate terms as needed, and hold contractors accountable to deliverables, timelines, and quality expectations.
- Travel to project sites during critical installation and commissioning phases to oversee equipment startup, testing, and acceptance procedures.
- Ensure safe energization and transition of power systems to operations, supporting a smooth handover to ongoing site teams.
- Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals under compressed timelines and evolving site and regulatory conditions., Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI): We may use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support parts of our hiring process, including sourcing, screening, and evaluating candidates.
