Job description

As Senior Cloud Engineer, you take full ownership of our AWS cloud environment and make sure our SaaS platform stays secure, performant, and resilient as we scale. You modernize and automate our 100% cloud-based infrastructure, using your deep AWS and DevOps expertise. Together with our Platform Team, you drive DevOps best practices across engineering. And you don’t just keep systems running: you look for ways to make our infrastructure faster, safer, and more resilient. Time to grow. Time to thrive. We are Nmbrs. We build smart business software that removes unnecessary complexity for SMEs and the professionals who support them. Nmbrs brings together four established product organisations-Payroll, Accounting, Invoicing and Reporting-with teams across the Netherlands, Sweden and Portugal. We are one brand with a shared ambition, while continuing to work from the expertise and strengths of our individual organisations. We join forces where it makes sense, while keeping teams, expertise and decision-making close together. For this role, you’ll join Nmbrs Accounting in Rotterdam , working closely with the colleagues in your local team while being part of the wider Nmbrs organisation. Your role As Senior Cloud Engineer, you take complete ownership of our AWS cloud environment and play a pivotal role in building a mature DevOps culture across our engineering organisation. You work closely with our Platform Team and product engineering teams, and are responsible for the scalability, security, and resilience of our infrastructure. In practice, you will:

  • Continuously refine and optimize our AWS infrastructure, with a sharp focus on scalability, maintainability, and security - you don’t wait for something to break before improving it.
  • Manage, monitor, and scale our Windows, SQL Server, and Linux servers, plus our Kubernetes (EKS) clusters, to keep everything highly available.
  • Lead technical infrastructure projects end-to-end - from architecture design and testing to monitoring and security - partnering with product engineering teams on complex architecture needs.
  • Collaborate closely with our Platform Team to evaluate, iterate, and roll out DevOps best practices across the wider engineering organisation. Your impact Your work directly determines how fast and reliably our SaaS platform can evolve. When you tune an EKS cluster or harden an IaC pipeline, it’s the reason product teams can ship changes with confidence instead of crossing their fingers. When something in our infrastructure needs to scale under real customer load, your ownership is what keeps it standing. You operate with high autonomy here - this isn’t a role where you wait for direction. The infrastructure decisions you make ripple out into how secure, fast, and resilient the product feels for the 100,000+ companies who depend on the Nmbrs Accounting module every day. You bring

Requirements

You’re an analytical, inventive engineer who takes pride in system resilience and clean architecture. You thrive with high autonomy and freedom, matched by a strong sense of personal accountability.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing production environments on AWS, with deep expertise in core services: networking (VPC, subnets, routing, security groups), EC2/Auto Scaling, S3 storage tiers, and RDS (backup/restore, patching, performance tuning).
  • Solid hands-on production experience with Kubernetes (EKS configuration & maintenance), Docker, Helm, and ArgoCD, plus proven experience setting up and maintaining Windows Servers in a public cloud environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet) and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions), with scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, or Python for deployment, monitoring, and application management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Comfortable owning infrastructure decisions independently, while treating security and resilience as non-negotiable. Bonus points:

  • Hands-on production experience with CloudFront/CDN, ElastiCache, Lambda, or SQS/SNS.
  • Relevant cloud certifications (AWS Architect, DevOps Engineer, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure for AI/ML workloads (e.g. general MLOps principles, vector databases, or data pipelines) and leveraging AI-driven development tools to optimize workflows. You don’t need to tick every possible box. If you recognise yourself in the role and believe you can make an impact, we’d like to hear from you.

Benefits & conditions

  • Personal development: A generous training budget, available directly after your probation period, for specialized certifications, courses, and training to solidify your technical expertise.
  • Time off and flexibility: 28 vacation days (and the option to buy 5 extra days), plus the possibility of Workation: up to 5 weeks per year of remote work.
  • Well-being & focus: Access to lifestyle coaches, healthy lunches, and other initiatives that contribute to your well-being and focus, including the possibility to lease a bike via Lease-a-Bike.
  • Financial security: A competitive base salary with attractive benefits, such as full pension coverage.
  • Optimal workplace: The best hardware, including a home-office budget to set up your remote workspace.
  • Plenty of opportunities: Enjoy the speed and autonomy of an innovative scale-up, backed by the stability, vast resources, and global career network of the Visma Group.
