Java Engineer / AWS Serverless Engineer (SC Cleared)

Hays are now looking for a Java Engineer / AWS Serverless Engineer (SC Cleared) for one of our local clients:

• £428 p/d Inside IR35
• Remote (occasional travel to London)
• 6 month+ contract
• Candidates must hold current SC Clearance

Role Overview

We’re looking for a hands-on Java Engineer to develop and support cloud-native services within an AWS environment. You’ll work on Java microservices, REST APIs and serverless components, contributing across the full software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java-based microservices and APIs.
• Build and support AWS serverless solutions using Lambda.
• Design and consume REST and SOAP services.
• Write automated tests and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with engineers, testers and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software.
• Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting and production support.

Essential Skills

• Java 21
• Maven
• AWS Lambda / Serverless development
• REST APIs
• Spring Boot
• JUnit 5
• Linux / Shell scripting
• Git and CI/CD experience

Desirable Skills

• AWS API Gateway
• DynamoDB
• SQS
• IAM
• CloudWatch
• Oracle Database
• Mockito, Cucumber, WireMock
• OAuth / SSO experience

Experience

• Strong Java backend development experience.
• Experience building and deploying applications in AWS.
• Must be SC Cleared
• Previous experience working in Agile delivery teams.
