Job description

As a Critical Services Technician, you will be responsiblefor the operation, maintenance, and reliability of critical building systemswithin a high-profile Global Account. Working within a mission-criticalenvironment, you will deliver both planned and reactive maintenance activitiesto ensure maximum uptime, resilience, and operational performance of essentialinfrastructure. This role offers exposure to innovative technologies andcritical facilities operations, supporting a world-class client environmentwhere safety, compliance, technical excellence, and customer service areparamount.

Please Note: shift pattern is a Continental Shift Pattern - 4 days on, 6 days off, 4 nights on, 4 off, 3 days on, 3 nights on, 4 days off (07.00-19.00 - 19.00-07.00).

What You’ll Do Maintenance & Operations Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks on critical electrical and associated mechanical infrastructure.

Operate, monitor, fault-find, and maintain: Electrical distribution systems UPS systems and battery installations Standby generators and associated controls Switchgear, transformers, and power distribution equipment Building Management Systems (BMS) Lighting and emergency lighting systems Power monitoring and energy management systems Critical cooling and supporting building services equipment Complete routine inspections, condition assessments, and performance checks on plant and equipment. Diagnose electrical faults and undertake repairs to minimise downtime and operational disruption. Respond promptly to emergency callouts, alarms, and system failures within agreed service levels. Support critical switching operations and isolations in accordance with approved procedures and site requirements.

Critical Environment Responsibilities Support the safe and efficient operation of a critical environment where business continuity and system uptime are essential. Monitor plant performance, alarms, and operational trends, taking proactive action to address potential issues. Participate in incident response activities and support root cause investigations following plant failures or operational events. Ensure all critical infrastructure operates within design parameters and client expectations. Assist with plant shutdowns, maintenance outages, testing programmes, and resilience exercises.

Compliance, Safety & Documentation Maintain compliance with all company, client, statutory, and regulatory requirements. Work within Safe Systems of Work, Permit to Work, and isolation procedures. Ensure maintenance activities are completed and accurately recorded within the site’s CAFM or maintenance management system. Maintain up-to-date logs of completed works, outstanding actions, plant status, and operational events. Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly while promoting a positive safety culture. Support compliance audits and site inspections as required.

Team & Client Support Build and maintain effective working relationships with the client, management team, and engineering colleagues. Operate as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, sharing technical knowledge and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Provide holiday, sickness, training, and emergency cover for other members of the team as required. Support technical improvement projects and the introduction of new technologies and operational best practices. Participate in ongoing technical and safety training programmes.

Requirements

NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline. Current BS7671 Wiring Regulations (18th Edition). Experience working within commercial, industrial, critical facilities, data centres, healthcare, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or similarly regulated environments. Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills. Knowledge of LV electrical systems, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, and critical infrastructure. Understanding of health and safety legislation, permit-to-work systems, and safe isolation procedures. Good communication and customer service skills. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and computerised maintenance management systems. Desirable Authorised Person (AP) status or willingness to work towards appointment. City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing. Experience of critical environments or data centre operations. Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS). IOSH Working Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification. Experience supervising specialist contractors and service providers.
