Job description
As a Software Technical Lead within SES’ Software Centre of Expertise (SCoE), you will provide hands-on technical leadership across the software development lifecycle, helping teams deliver scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions. You will shape technical direction, guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and contribute directly to the design and implementation of complex software systems. Working in close partnership with Product Owners, Software Architects, QA, and other stakeholders, you will help drive engineering excellence, accelerate delivery, and foster a collaborative culture built on innovation, continuous improvement, and shared ownership. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Technical Vision & Architecture
- Define and communicate coding standards, engineering practices and technical guardrails.
- Guide low level architectural direction for the team in alignment with enterprise and solution architecture.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, observable and fit for long-term ownership.
- Identify, prevent and actively reduce technical debt while balancing delivery commitments.
Hands-On Engineering Contribution
- Contribute directly to code, design decisions, technical spikes and complex problem solving.
- Review pull requests with a focus on maintainability, reliability, testability and clarity.
- Lead by example through clean code, pragmatic refactoring and sound engineering discipline.
Mentorship & Coaching
- Coach developers through technical discussions, pairing, code reviews and knowledge sharing.
- Encourage best practices, continuous improvement and shared ownership of engineering quality.
- Support team capability growth without creating dependency on a single technical expert.
Agile Collaboration
- Support backlog refinement by clarifying technical complexity, risks and dependencies.
- Assist with estimation during sprint planning by helping the team understand technical options and constraints.
- Participate actively in sprint reviews and retrospectives, with a focus on improving product and engineering outcomes.
Quality & DevOps Culture
- Promote CI/CD, automated testing, code quality gates and a strong Definition of Done.
- Encourage instrumentation, monitoring, operational readiness and secure-by-design practices.
- Help the team balance speed of delivery with sustainability, resilience and maintainability., * This role is intended to strengthen technical direction and engineering excellence within SCoE Delivery while preserving Agile team ownership and collaboration.

Requirements
- Solid system design capability, including scalability, maintainability, integration and operational considerations.
- Ability to translate business and product needs into pragmatic technical choices.
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Coaching mindset with the ability to support junior and mid-level developers.
- Risk assessment capability, especially around technical debt, dependencies, delivery constraints and quality risks., * Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field
- Strong software engineering background with hands-on coding experience in modern application delivery environments
- Practical experience with backend development using Python, Golang or comparable modern languages
- Practical experience with frontend development using Angular, React or comparable web technologies
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, data modelling and performance considerations
- Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, integration patterns and the software development lifecycle
- Experience with code review, refactoring, automated testing, CI/CD and quality gates
- Experience working in Agile software delivery environments, including Scrum, Kanban or scaled Agile practices
- Experience with Agile and engineering tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Git-based repositories and CI/CD platforms
- Ability to collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, architects, developers, QA and release management stakeholders
- Familiarity with AI tools and platforms to support engineering productivity, analytics or quality improvement is an asset, * Backend languages: strong hands-on experience with Python and/or Golang for services, APIs, integration patterns and maintainable server-side code
- Frontend technologies: practical understanding of Angular and/or React, component-based UI, front-end quality and collaboration with UX/product stakeholders
- Databases and persistence: experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, data modelling, performance considerations, migrations and data quality practices
- Cloud and platform engineering: understanding of cloud-native delivery, containerization, infrastructure-as-code principles, observability and secure platform integration
- DevOps and quality practices: CI/CD, automated testing, pull-request discipline, release readiness, code quality gates and Definition of Done practices
- Architecture and integration: API design, event-driven or service-based integration, scalability, resilience, dependency management and technical debt control
- Security and operations: secure-by-design mindset, monitoring, logging, operational readiness, incident learning and production support considerations
