Application Developer for Enrollment and CRM Services

As a member of the Enterprise Application Services team, the Application Developer for Enrollment and CRM Services plays a central role in the overall strategy, planning, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of technical solutions meant to support the institution’s enrollment and relationship management-based business operations. They participate in the systems design process and frequently assume responsibility for project maintenance, major modifications, or the development of systems. The Sr. Application Developer ensures seamless integration, data integrity, and user support across systems that directly impact student enrollment, retention, engagement, and financial aid operations. They gather requirements, provide technical analysis, and improve processes and the reliability, flexibility, and resilience of systems and platforms. This role requires collaboration on projects and related activities with others in IT Services and the Hobart & William Smith Colleges’ community members. This position reports to the Director of Enterprise Application Services team in IT Services.

Essential Responsibilities:

\u2022 Configure, maintain, and enhance the Admissions, Recruiting, Financial Aid and CRM Systems to support retention workflows, early alerts, communication campaigns, financial aid awards and reporting.

\u2022 Develop and maintain data integrations between Student CRM, Financial Aid System, and PeopleSoft, including batch jobs, file parsers, APIs.

\u2022 Create and manage queries and reports to support operational needs and strategic decision-making.

\u2022 Propose, conceptualize, design, implement, and develop solutions for difficult and complex processes.

\u2022 Determine requirements from functional processes to support project and application solutions.

\u2022 Collaborate with business unit and IT Services staff to generate process-level documentation.

\u2022 Perform testing, debugging, change control, security practices, and documentation for projects.

\u2022 Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems.

\u2022 Maintain active relationships with vendors to address performance issues and stay abreast of platform developments.

\u2022 Write technical and support documentation and handbooks that depict application design, usage, and implementation.

\u2022 Collaborate with team members on code reviews, project planning, and brainstorming sessions.

\u2022 Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and developers, to define and implement innovative solutions.

\u2022 Contribute to the overall success of database management by participating in the development of SQL tables, queries, functions, procedures, packages, and triggers.

\u2022 Represents Colleges and the department as a principal contact for community members, vendors, contractors, and the public.

u2022 A Bachelor’s degree and five years of programming experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

o A Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field is preferred.

\u2022 3+ years experience in a Higher Education setting preferred.

\u2022 3+ years supporting enrollment-based technical solutions preferred.

\u2022 Must have at least two years of experience working in an iterative software development methodology.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

\u2022 Experience with enrollment, CRM (preferably Slate), and financial aid systems

\u2022 Proficiency in SQL, data integration tools, and system documentation.

\u2022 Experience with implementing and supporting a CRM in higher education and familiarity with federal financial aid processes.

\u2022 Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, Python, or similar languages. Familiarity with HTML, XML, and web technologies. Ability to write and maintain scripts for automation and integration.

\u2022 Building and maintaining integrations with third-party systems (e.g., SIS, APIs)

\u2022 Strong understanding of data integrity, data management, and manipulation

\u2022 Understanding of cloud security best practices

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year, with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours period. Hybrid and remote workers will be considered for this job. Salary range is $95,000 - $115,000.
