Job description

  • Design simple, intuitive, and accessible digital services that meet user needs and business objectives
  • Take an end-to-end view of services, creating effective, user-centred interactions across channels
  • Participate in user research activities, using qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform design decisions and service improvements
  • Rapidly prototype and test designs using paper, digital, and code-based methods
  • Produce clear interaction design artefacts, including sketches, user flows, scenarios, wireframes, journey maps, and prototypes
  • Capture and communicate design decisions clearly and confidently, influencing stakeholders and colleagues with a strong evidence base
  • Facilitate workshops, co-design sessions, and user testing to explore problems, generate ideas, and validate solutions
  • Work collaboratively within agile, multidisciplinary teams alongside developers, researchers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver effective services
  • Contribute to design standards and design systems, maintaining consistency across services and interfaces
  • Support service transformation by improving the efficiency, speed, and usability of public services
  • Support and coach teams and stakeholders in user-centred design and agile ways of working
  • Contribute to internal culture, tools, processes, and capability development
  • Contribute to the development of the Design practice and the Interaction Design community of practice
  • Mentor, coach, support, and manage colleagues
  • Support thought leadership, case studies, and insights showcasing interaction design expertise
  • Contribute to client proposals and presentations to help win new projects

Requirements

  • Proven experience and knowledge of using GOV.UK Prototype Kit, design systems and design patterns
  • Proven experience of understanding and ensuring usability, accessibility, and inclusivity, in line with WCAG and GOV.UK design guidelines
  • Practical experience of working to the Government Service Standard, ideally with service assessment experience across all phases
  • Strong verbal, written, and facilitation skills, able to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong technical literacy, able to understand high-level technical processes, constraints, and concepts
  • A pragmatic team player with a creative, structured, and logical approach to understanding problems and designing inclusive, human-centred experiences
  • Appreciation of both business and user needs
  • Keen to develop T-shaped skills and take on new challenges
  • Open to working in different locations for different clients, with willingness to meet in our London office and travel as client needs dictate
