Your Tasks

Develop and implement new features and functionalities using COBOL
Maintain and enhance the existing securities processing system
Refactor and optimize existing modules with a focus on performance and maintainability
Improve application logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting capabilities
Contribute to the enhancement of disaster recovery solutions
Integrate the mainframe environment with a modern, decentralized system architecture
Work on critical business processes including:
Order management
Securities trading and settlement
Fee and tax calculation
Transaction processing
Analyze existing applications and identify opportunities for technical and performance improvements
Collaborate closely with other development and technical teams
Take ownership of technical topics and drive them through to successful implementation
Contribute to a high-quality, stable, and future-oriented mainframe environment

Requirements

10+ years of professional experience in mainframe computing
Strong hands-on experience with COBOL
Solid experience with IBM z/OS
Strong knowledge of:
DB2
CICS
JES/JCL
Proven experience in the banking, securities trading, or financial services industry
Strong analytical and structured approach to problem-solving
Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned topics
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work effectively across different teams and disciplines
Strong prioritization and organizational skills
Willingness to both give and receive constructive feedback
Team-oriented mindset combined with a high degree of independence
Fluent English is required
German is an advantage
Willingness to work 2-3 days per week on-site in Vienna

About the company

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer (m/f/d) to join a challenging project within the banking and securities trading environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a business-critical securities processing system running on IBM mainframe technology. You will work on new functionality, modernize and optimize existing applications, and contribute to the integration of the mainframe environment into a modern, decentralized architecture.
