An opportunity has opened for an experienced Senior Rust Developer to join a growing engineering team working on next-generation, cutting-edge national defence technologies. This is a genuinely technical role for somebody with strong commercial Rust experience who is comfortable working across secure systems, networking, distributed architectures and cryptography. You’ll be involved throughout the engineering lifecycle - designing and developing secure, high-performance software, solving complex technical problems and contributing to architecture and security decisions across highly sensitive systems., You’ll need strong commercial experience across:
- Rust development / systems programming
- Ownership, borrowing, lifetimes and traits
- Concurrency and asynchronous Rust
- Zenoh / Eclipse Zenoh
- Distributed messaging and publish/subscribe architectures
- Secure software engineering / secure-by-design principles
- TLS / SSL, mTLS, PKI and X.509
- Certificate Authorities, certificate chains and trust stores
- Applied cryptography and secure key management
- Network programming and TCP/IP
- Linux-based development
- Software architecture, debugging and complex problem solving
- Automated testing, Git and CI/CD
- Experience with technologies such as rustls, OpenSSL, RustCrypto, Tokio, HSMs, TPMs, Zero Trust architectures, embedded/edge systems or other high-assurance software environments would be particularly useful.
- Defence / Security
- Previous experience within Defence, National Security, Government or another security-sensitive environment would be advantageous, particularly where you’ve worked on secure communications or high-assurance software.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting for the position. Existing clearance would obviously be beneficial but isn’t necessarily essential.
Why consider it?
This isn’t a standard commercial Rust role. You’ll be working on complex, technically demanding systems where performance, resilience and security genuinely matter, within a business developing cutting-edge national defence technology.
