Systems Analyst

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies & Research, and under the general direction of the Sr. Systems Analyst Lead of Engineering Computing Systems (ECS), the Systems Analyst is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and maintaining cost-effective, reliable college-wide computing systems. The incumbent coordinates and manages technology projects, provides technical support to students, staff and faculty, trains student workers and other technicians, generates and maintains virtual servers, and makes proposals and recommendations related to hardware and software for the college. The Systems Analyst makes recommendations and provides specifications for procurement, installation, support, and maintenance of all requisite hardware and software for the College and makes recommendations for all Engineering departments; develops and implements operational policies, procedures, and practices necessary for reliable delivery of computing services; coordinates technology projects with the appropriate faculty, staff, and students; builds consensus and solicits input when making significant changes, and maintains good channels of communication in terms of decisions and policies associated with the delivery of technical services within the college. Provides support through example and leadership to peers, faculty, and fellow staff members. Develops and implements requests and proposals for acquisition of equipment, software, supplies, and services. Keeps abreast of the latest of the latest developments in various fields related to computing and in particular to desktop support. Provides updates to the Senior Systems Analyst of ECS on the current status of computing and desktop support within the College. Develops and maintains databases, records, documents and files associated with computing and desktop systems. This position advances strategic initiatives and ensures day-to-day business functions are aligned with the core values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility., + Ensure effective, reliable, efficient, and continuous operation of the College of Engineering academic, open, and research computer laboratories by serving as the systems administrator and lead.

• Plan, design, procure, and implement upgrades and ensure computer laboratory configurations are relevant to and adequately support coursework.
• Develop and implement procedures and tools for both network and local printing solutions for our computer labs.
• Provide projector and related AV support and maintenance for COE-managed lecture rooms.
• Manage licensing servers for all software running in our labs.
• Develop, implement, and maintain virtual server environments for the College of Engineering lab servers.
• Create, administer, and maintain an application server that allows faculty and staff to readily install College and University licensed software and other essential freeware over the network.
• Ensure high availability, fail over, and backup procedures are in place and tested.
• Develop, implement, and document procedures and tools for ensuring rapid and automated regeneration of corrupted laboratory workstations and servers.

• Comprehensive knowledge of, and proficiency in, administering Microsoft Windows domain controllers, servers and workstations.
• Thorough knowledge of and proficiency in installing, configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware and peripherals.
• Familiar with cloning techniques for rapid deployment of workstations from base-golden images.
• Strong understanding of network protocols and ability to identify and troubleshoot networking issues.
• Proficient in print quota tools such as Print Manager Plus.
• Ability to analyze and organize large complex projects and prioritize subtasks.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to research problem solutions and maintain knowledge of current technologies
• General awareness of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), and a willingness to develop skills in their appropriate, responsible, and ethical use in a higher education environment, consistent with institutional policies and practices., + Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

• Four years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study.
• 5 plus years of experience with Desktop Support.
• Experience with network licensing (FlexM).
• 5 plus years of experience with Active Directory management (users, groups, GPO, etc).
• Experience with mass deployments via cloning.imaging.
• 5 plus years of Server Administration experience.
• Experience with OS patching and vulnerability abatement.
• Experience with engineering software deployment.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols and ability to troubleshoot networking issues.

Classification: Database Administrator III Anticipated Hiring Range: $8,042/month - $9,056/month (Step 6 - Step 12) CSU Salary Range: $7,284/month - $10,611/month (Step 1 - Step 20) San José State University offers employees a comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30-35% of your base salary.
