Job description

We are hiring a Senior Systems Engineer - Spacecraft Test Integration / TIDES to serve as a senior cross-functional technical lead supporting aerospace and defense spacecraft test environments across hardware, FPGA/firmware, and software infrastructure. This role supports the Test Integration & Development Environment for Spacecraft (TIDES) organization across System Test Environment (STE) hardware, Platform Integration & Evolution (PIE) firmware, and Standard Software Infrastructure (SSI), with responsibility for spacecraft payload development, design verification, production test, sustainment, requirements traceability, automated test infrastructure, networked software deployment, technical proposals, and system integration., * Lead cross-functional technical coordination across TIDES System Test Environment (STE), Platform Integration & Evolution (PIE), and Standard Software Infrastructure (SSI) scope.

  • Support the architecture, design, integration, and verification of development, unit verification, production, module, power converter, NAS, and calibration test environments.
  • Translate spacecraft payload and program requirements into test capabilities, measurement approaches, interface requirements, verification methods, and evidence-generation plans.
  • Develop and coordinate engineering design packages, including top-level assemblies, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), cable packages, rack architectures, RF drawer concepts, FPGA/I/O drawer concepts, calibration plans, Bills of Material (BOMs), and test readiness artifacts.
  • Coordinate FPGA and digital I/O requirements across test racks, payload interfaces, data capture paths, timing/reference distribution, and platform evolution plans.
  • Support DOTI and related test infrastructure deployment, including station configuration, network topology, equipment monitoring, automated test execution, data handling, and reusable software core integration.
  • Identify and resolve gaps among payload requirements, available test capabilities, Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) coverage, calibration approaches, and formal verification evidence.
  • Drive reuse and standardization across programs by identifying common capabilities for incorporation into TIDES core infrastructure.
  • Develop technical approaches for proposals, including Basis of Estimate (BOE) inputs, labor estimates, assumptions, risks, opportunities, and execution plans.
  • Lead technical solution development with program teams, capture teams, engineering leadership, and subject-matter experts.
  • Perform and support trade studies spanning hardware, FPGA, software infrastructure, automation, calibration, verification, schedule, cost, and technical risk.
  • Translate ambiguous program requirements into candidate architectures, phased implementation plans, staffing requirements, risks, and technical decision points.
  • Support technical reviews, proposal color-team responses, customer discussion preparation, and internal engineering leadership briefings.
  • Mentor engineers across disciplines and establish consistent engineering practices for TIDES products and test environments.
  • Communicate technical issues, risks, impacts, and corrective actions to program teams, engineering leadership, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Security Clearance: Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is preferred at time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience., * Experience with spacecraft payload development, integration, verification, production test, or sustainment.
  • Strong knowledge of system test environments, automated test systems, RF test equipment, FPGA-based interfaces, rack-level integration, test data infrastructure, and networked laboratory environments.
  • Experience translating payload requirements into stimulus, measurement, cabling, calibration, software, network configuration, and ATP evidence requirements.
  • Experience with requirements analysis, requirements traceability, interface definition, system integration, verification planning, and test readiness reviews.
  • Experience supporting proposals, BOEs, technical volumes, basis-of-estimate narratives, labor estimates, risks, assumptions, and solution-space trade studies.
  • Experience defining executable technical solutions when requirements or problem statements are incomplete or evolving.
  • Experience configuring and sustaining test networks and laboratory infrastructure, including static IP planning, isolated instrument LANs, 10G data paths, servers/workstations, software deployment, account coordination, backup/data handling, and networked test equipment troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, Git, CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker/containerized deployment, instrument control, and networked test systems.
  • Familiarity with FPGA development, high-speed digital interfaces, timing/reference distribution, JESD204B, Ethernet/10G data paths, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
  • Broad technical knowledge spanning electrical hardware, systems engineering, software infrastructure, laboratory infrastructure, and software deployment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical coordination across multidisciplinary teams and resolving complex system integration issues.
  • Experience identifying technical risks, resolving integration problems, implementing corrective actions, and preventing recurring issues that could affect program execution.
  • Ability to appropriately use AI-enabled tools for engineering research, documentation, automation, analysis, productivity, and decision support while independently verifying technical outputs.
  • Experience communicating technical risks, trade studies, readiness gaps, and corrective actions to technical and leadership audiences.
  • Experience improving reuse, standardization, automation, resiliency, and long-term supportability across program test environments.

Benefits & conditions

  • Applicants selected for employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background investigation, which may include education, criminal, and work history verifications.
  • Accepted applicants will be eligible for benefits, including medical and supplemental insurance, and a 401(k) plan. Appreciation and gratitude for employees are hallmarks of organizations with low turnover.
