Job description

As our Data Engineer, you’ll take hands-on technical ownership of data ingestion, transformation, data warehousing and integration, primarily using Microsoft Fabric, SQL and Power BI. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the Group to understand reporting and data requirements, translate these into reliable data models and integrations, and ensure data is accurate, secure and accessible for decision-making. Working collaboratively with the wider IT team, you’ll help maintain appropriate data architecture, quality, governance and operational standards.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop and maintain the Group’s Microsoft Fabric data platform and enterprise data warehouse

  • Design, build and support data ingestion and transformation processes across bronze, silver and gold data layers

  • Develop and maintain Fabric pipelines, Lakehouse and warehouse structures, SQL transformations and dimensional data models

  • Build and support integrations with operational systems using APIs, database connections, ODBC, file transfers and other appropriate methods

  • Develop and maintain Power BI semantic models, supporting colleagues with the creation of reliable reports and dashboards

  • Establish data quality, testing and reconciliation controls to ensure information is accurate, complete and consistent with source systems

  • Work with stakeholders across the Group to understand reporting and integration requirements, agree definitions and validate outputs

  • Support the development of enterprise customer data, including customer matching, shared identifiers and the management of ambiguous records

  • Maintain development, user acceptance testing and production environments, with controlled deployment and release processes

  • Configure scheduling, monitoring and failure notifications, investigating and resolving unsuccessful or long-running processes

  • Maintain technical and operational documentation, including data dictionaries, mappings, schemas, architecture diagrams and support runbooks

  • Work with the IT pillar leads to ensure new applications and integrations consider data quality, ownership, security, APIs and reporting requirements

Requirements

You’ll bring practical, hands-on experience in data engineering, data warehousing and business intelligence, with strong technical skills in Microsoft Fabric or closely related Microsoft cloud data technologies.

You’ll be confident developing and troubleshooting SQL transformation logic, designing reliable ETL or ELT pipelines, and creating clear data models that support trusted reporting and decision-making.

You’ll be collaborative, organised and service-focused, able to translate business reporting and integration requirements into maintainable technical solutions. You’ll be comfortable working with technical and non-technical stakeholders, with a strong focus on data quality, governance, security, lineage and documentation best practice.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Practical experience of Microsoft Fabric or closely related Microsoft cloud data technologies

  • Strong SQL skills, including developing and troubleshooting data transformation logic

  • Experience designing and maintaining ETL or ELT pipelines

  • Strong knowledge of dimensional modelling, including facts, dimensions, grain, business keys and star schemas

  • Experience integrating operational systems using APIs, databases, ODBC connections and files

  • Experience implementing data quality, testing and reconciliation controls

  • Experience building and maintaining Power BI semantic models

  • Experience using source control and controlled deployment processes

  • Ability to translate business reporting and integration requirements into clear, maintainable technical solutions

  • Understanding of data governance, security, lineage and documentation best practice

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands

  • Relevant professional experience or qualifications in data engineering, data warehousing, computing or a related discipline

In return

You’ll join a supportive and friendly IT team within a values-led organisation that genuinely cares about its people. You’ll play a key role in helping the IT function operate effectively and professionally across a diverse, multi-site organisation.
