Job description
- Lead the design and assurance of system-to-system integrations, ensuring consistent, reusable, and secure connectivity across the technology estate.
- Define, document, and maintain integration architecture standards, patterns, and reference models, with a focus on API-led and event-driven integration.
- Design and assure integrations deployed within AWS and Boomi, ensuring effective use of cloud-native services and delivering robust API management, messaging, orchestration, and security requirements for resilience.
- Define and govern API connectivity models, including internal, external, and 3rd-party integrations, while ensuring appropriate versioning, documentation, and lifecycle management.
- Ensure integrations meet non-functional requirements, including security, performance, resilience, scalability, and cost efficiency in line with public sector standards.
- Provide architectural assurance and challenge for integration designs presented through formal governance and review processes.
- Work collaboratively with Technical Architects, delivery teams, platform teams, security specialists, and external suppliers to deliver agreed integration architectures.
- Support delivery teams during build and implementation phases by providing hands-on architectural guidance and resolving complex integration issues.

- microservices, We are offering an 11-month contract for an Integration Architect role based in Edinburgh on a hybrid working basis, starting ASAP, with a day rate of £679. The role sits inside IR35 and requires a valid Basic Disclosure Scotland, or willingness to apply for one. We are seeking someone to help shape and assure secure, scalable, and reusable integration architecture across our technology estate, with a strong focus on AWS, Boomi, API-led integration, and event-driven design in a public sector environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating as an Integration Architect or in an equivalent specialist architecture role within a large and complex organisation.
- Extensive experience designing, implementing, governing, and supporting enterprise integration solutions using Boomi, including API Management, Integration, Master Data Management, and Event Streams capabilities.
- Strong knowledge of application architecture and enterprise application landscapes, including SaaS, COTS, and bespoke applications.
- Demonstrable experience defining integration standards, reference architectures, design principles, and technical roadmaps.
- Experience leading architectural governance activities and providing technical assurance through Architecture Review Boards or equivalent governance forums.
- Proven ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders, suppliers, delivery teams, and executive audiences, translating complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
- Experience working within Agile and multidisciplinary delivery environments.
- Experience working in large public sector organisations with an understanding of government digital service standards and governance processes.
- Expert knowledge of AWS Cloud architecture, with practical experience of integration and API services including API Gateway, Lambda, EventBridge, SNS/SQS, Step Functions, ECS/EKS, IAM, CloudWatch, VPC networking, and security controls.
- Demonstrable experience defining and governing API strategies, including REST APIs, event-driven APIs, API lifecycle management, security standards, versioning, and governance models.
- Strong understanding of integration architecture patterns and their appropriate application, including point-to-point integration, hub-and-spoke, event-driven architecture, publish-subscribe, microservices integration, data integration and synchronisation patterns, and hybrid cloud integration.
