Staff Software Engineer - Golang

As a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Golang, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance, scalable software solutions that underpin General Motors’ enterprise data architecture. You will drive technical excellence, mentor junior engineers, and contribute significantly to our continuous improvement culture within an Agile environment., * Design, develop, and implement robust and scalable software applications primarily using Golang, adhering to best practices and coding standards.

• Lead the technical design and architecture of complex software systems, ensuring alignment with enterprise data architecture principles and strategic objectives.
• Collaborate effectively across multiple cross-functional teams (e.g., product, data science, operations) to understand requirements, define solutions, and deliver high-quality software.
• Mentor and guide junior and mid-level software engineers, fostering a culture of technical growth, continuous learning, and innovation.
• Drive group problem-solving initiatives, identifying root causes, and implementing effective and sustainable solutions.
• Contribute to the evolution and implementation of our Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) practices, ensuring efficient and predictable software delivery.
• Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure the maintainability, reliability, and security of software products.
• Act as a technical subject matter expert, staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, and proposing their adoption where beneficial.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Champion continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices, and automated testing to ensure high software quality and rapid iteration., This role is based remotely, but if the selected candidate lives within a specific mile radius of a GM hub, they will be expected to report to the location three times a week {or other frequency dictated by your manager}.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in software development, with a significant focus on Golang.
• Proven expertise in designing and implementing scalable and high-performance distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture principles and patterns.
• Demonstrated ability to provide Cross-Functional Leadership, influencing technical decisions and driving consensus across diverse teams.
• Exceptional skills in Group Problem Solving, with a track record of tackling complex technical challenges effectively.
• Proficiency with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies or similar agile scaling frameworks.
• Expert-level Software Coding abilities in Golang, including concurrency, error handling, and performance optimization.
• Deep understanding of Software Development best practices, including version control (Git), testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven Strategic Leadership capabilities, contributing to technical roadmaps and long-term architectural vision.
• Strong commitment to Continuous Learning and staying current with evolving technologies and industry trends.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
