Job description

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Application Programmer for the Office of Information Technology. This position will report to the Associate Director of EAS-MaCS within OIT.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Assists in the administration of various MaCS (Messaging and Collaboration Services) cloud services (possibly including O365, Google Suite, Box, Slack and others), often via an administrative console, administrative tools provided by the cloud vendor, and/or Powershell or other commands/scripting languages.
  • Acts as a liaison between OIT technical staff, help desk and Rutgers departmental IT staff in an effort to assure proper delivery of MaCS services and provide correct resolution of issues/questions.
  • Develops application and tools to integrate with these cloud services and even with some of the on-premises systems supported by MaCS. This process includes programming, testing, documentation, communication, design, analysis and support. These applications and tools often integrate with cloud services using vendor APIs.
  • Works under the direct supervision and guidance of other higher-level technical staff and management., Working Hours Standard Hours 37.50 Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technology field, or an equivalent combination education and experience.

  • Ability of working independently on projects, while recognizing when to leverage the support and mentorship of higher-level technical staff., * Experience, knowledge and ability to provide service administration (via admin consoles and scripts/shell commands) and provide strong technical support with various cloud services, including O365, Google Suite, Box and others.
  • Ability and eagerness to learn, excellent problem-solving skills, and clear communication.
  • A level-headed, patient, and professional approach, combined with a positive attitude and dedication to providing excellent customer support is highly valued.
  • Ability to collaborate well with a team, and experience working in a university environment.
  • Foundational understanding of data structures, algorithm design, or object-oriented.
  • Experience in Python, shell, and PowerShell.
  • Experience with PHP.
  • Familiarity with HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Ability to work with structured data formats like JSON or XML.
  • Familiarity with basic conceptual understanding of how to use and integrate with APIs.
