Job description

Parkeet is looking for a firmware engineer with a passion for connected embedded systems and the grit to push hardware to its limits. As our firmware engineer, you will build and maintain the embedded software at the heart of our IoT platform: custom hardware running detection logic on the edge, and syncing to the cloud over cellular - all while only sipping power to ensure the longest battery life possible.

You’ll work closely with our founding team (hardware engineer and data scientist), with real input into technical decisions and a chance to take ownership on the architecture and roadmap., * Implement and maintain the firmware and communications stacks for our complete hardware stack (BLE, LTE-M/NB-IoT)

  • Be hands-on with the hardware and usual equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, current profiler), and optimize the firmware to ensure the lowest power consumption possible
  • Translate the algorithms developed by the data science team to run efficiently on the edge
  • Set up internal tooling and automated CI/CD pipeline to ensure high quality and deploy with confidence
  • Ensure security along the complete stack, from secure bootloader with DFU, to key management for data encryption, to secure and authenticated communication
  • Collaborate closely with the founding team and communicate clearly on timelines, deadlines and blockers

Requirements

Have you ever been frustrated trying to find available parking? Do you want to do something about that?, * You have strong proven experience developing firmware for battery-powered embedded devices with constrained resources

  • You have deep expertise with Zephyr RTOS and/or nRF Connect SDK
  • You have hands-on experience with IoT protocols, more specifically Bluetooth, NB-IoT and LTE-M
  • You are fluent in C and comfortable optimising for ARM Cortex-M
  • You have set up CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
  • You’re senior enough to work independently and make sound technical calls day to day, while staying open to input and collaborating on the bigger decisions
  • You identify as a T-shaped person: you understand the full connected product stack and are not afraid to dive deep where it counts

It would be amazing (but not required) if you also

  • Have worked with IoT cloud infrastructure (Azure IoT Hub, AWS IoT Core, nRF Cloud) and know how to set this up and configure it for reliable operation
  • Can read Python, as this will be useful for understanding the algorithm prototypes you’ll be porting to C
  • Enjoy getting hands-on with electronics: you’re comfortable reading schematics and PCB layouts, and have some experience with ECAD tools such as Altium or KiCad - we’d love for you to weigh in on hardware iterations alongside your firmware work

Benefits & conditions

  • A role with genuine technical autonomy on a novel connected IoT product - your decisions ship to hardware in the field
  • Work on genuinely hard problems: edge processing, long-life power budgets, and reliable remote data retrieval on constrained devices
  • Close collaboration with hardware, software, and data science, with the freedom to get hands-on across the stack if that’s where your curiosity takes you
  • Early stage startup experience: you get to work directly with the founders, and your scope grows with you over time, at your own pace
  • Equity as part of the compensation package
  • Flexible hybrid work in our offices in Leuven (next to the train station)
