Job description
At Avular , we are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic senior software engineer to strengthen our current team. Here you will work on developing and productizing software components for our modular robotics platforms. In this role, you will make sure that our control and algorithmic engineers can use our products with ROS to create more advanced features. So, you will become the bridge between our hardware and higher-level software engineers or control engineers. YOUR MISSION Avular designs and builds modular robotics platforms from the ground up. You will build and productise the onboard software for our driving robots, as well as co-develop the architecture it sits in. Your work is what allows our control and algorithm engineers to build higher-level autonomy on top, via ROS.
- Design and build onboard applications in C++, with Python where it fits
- Co-develop the software architecture - interfaces, structure, and how components fit together
- Build the automated tests and documentation that make a feature genuinely done
- Collaborate directly with hardware, control and algorithm engineers
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, Control Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Typically 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with relevant experience in, for example: robotics, autonomous systems, motion planning, or navigation.
- Strong software engineering skills in C++ (C++17 or newer) and practical experience with Python.
- Professional experience developing robotic software using ROS2.
- Experience with graph-based representations and algorithms, such as navigation graphs, vector graphs, graph search, route planning, or related techniques.
- Solid understanding of robot autonomy, including areas such as localisation, navigation, path planning, trajectory generation, obstacle avoidance, and autonomous behaviour.
- Experience developing algorithms that operate on real robotic systems, preferably mobile robots, autonomous vehicles, or drones.
- Comfortable developing and debugging software on Linux, including software deployed on ARM-based systems.
- Experience with CMake, dependency management, and building larger C++ software projects.
- Familiarity with Docker and containerised development/deployment.
-
Able to analyse system behaviour using logs, recorded sensor data, ROS bags, and other diagnostic information. Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with autonomy for both ground vehicles and aerial robots.
- Experience with geometric algorithms, computational geometry, mapping, or spatial data structures.
- Experience with optimisation, trajectory planning, or motion planning libraries.
- Experience integrating perception, localisation, planning, and control components into a complete robotic system.
- Experience testing and validating autonomy algorithms on physical robots.
Benefits & conditions
At Avular, work meets play in the best possible way. We’re shaping the future of robotics, and we want you along for the ride. Here’s what’s waiting for you:
- Grow & Shine: Bring your vision and grow your career in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.
