Test Supervisor

This is a full-time daytime-only position based at Fibercore House, Southampton, SO16 7QQ. As Test Supervisor, you will take day-to-day operational responsibility for the Test team, working closely with the Production Manager to ensure resources are effectively deployed to meet priorities and maintain throughput. You will be expected to: Use the Test Dashboard to coordinate activities and deploy resources according to operational needs. Take ownership of test workload and throughput, using a proactive, problem-solving approach to identify and drive solutions to issues that could affect the flow of work. Act as the first point of contact when test priorities, requirements or actions are unclear, seeking Engineering support where required. Supervise and support the Test team, balancing workloads and contributing directly to testing when required. Ensure effective handover and communication between day and night shifts, including priorities, outstanding work and issues. Work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing, demonstrating the initiative, judgement and operational accountability expected of the Test Supervisor. Take responsibility for health and safety, and quality within the test area. You will also spend a significant proportion of your working day carrying out the duties of a Test Technician alongside your supervisory responsibilities. You will be expected to: Operate proof test machines, including length checking and fibre scrapping operations. Perform a range of geometric and optical measurements on optical fibre products, following standard work instructions and using precision test equipment and bespoke software. Accurately record test results in the required spreadsheets and in-house databases. Monitor measurement results and trends, identifying and escalating irregularities to Engineering where required. Perform basic maintenance and routine checks on test equipment, helping to maintain reliable and accurate operation.

Maintain and develop your technical skills to support measurement accuracy, consistency and test capability. Role Requirements: Experienced at operating all measurement equipment. A high degree of dexterity. A strong attention to detail and accuracy. Agile and adaptable, able to switch focus quickly. A fast learner, with an interest in the study of measurement. Confident and competent with the use of standard IT equipment and software. Have positive teamworking skills and a strong work ethic to ensure smooth department communication and cohesion. Ability to identify positive changes and a proactive approach to instigating them Education and/or experience: Minimum of 5 GCSEs, or equivalent, grade 4 (C) or above, including Maths and a Science subject. Practical experience using test and measurement equipment within a manufacturing or technical environment. Ability to follow and interpret technical procedures, work instructions and test requirements accurately. Able to demonstrate a proactive and solution-focused approach, with the confidence to make day-to-day decisions and seek support when required. Good communication and organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate priorities and work effectively with others.
