Job description
We are building the most engaging and impactful workplace philanthropy platform in the world. With the help of our customers ,we collect employee donation and volunteering activity, employee carbon emissions data, and community investment impact data that we combine with research data to produce our own forecasts and models of impact.
As a Senior Data Engineer working on the Data Platform team, you will help build Deed’s Data Intelligence Platform. You will architect and run highly-available, large-scale, multi-geo data pipelines for analyzing product analytics and nonprofit data, and use these pipelines to guide business decisions and deliver data products to customers. You will do this using the latest data stack and other tools in the data ecosystem such as DBT, Fivetran, Sigma and dagster**
The impact you will have:
- Design and run the cross-company Data Intelligence Platform, which contains every business and product metric used to run Deed. You’ll play a key role in developing the right balance of data protections and ease of shareability for the Data Intelligence Platform.
- Develop tooling and infrastructure to efficiently manage and run Deed’s Data Platform at scale, across multiple geographies and deployment types. This includes CI/CD processes, test frameworks for pipelines and data quality, and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Design and run Deed’s Nonprofit Database that enables customers sharing and aggregation of nonprofit data with high quality, introspection ability and query performance.
- Design the base ETL framework used by all pipelines developed at the company.
- Partner with our engineering teams and product teams to provide leadership in developing the long-term vision and requirements for Deed’s Data Platform.
- Build reliable data pipelines and solve data problems, our existing data stack and other OSS tools.
- Establish conventions and create new APIs for data, telemetry, feature and audit event log data, and evolve them as the product and underlying services change.
Requirements
- BS (or higher degree) in Computer Science, or a related field
- 8 to 10 years of professional experience creating and maintaining data pipelines
- Strong python and SQL skills
- Experience providing technical leadership on large projects similar to the ones described above - ETL frameworks, metrics stores, infrastructure management, data security.
- Experience building, shipping and operating reliable multi-geo data pipelines at scale.
- Experience working with and operating workflow or orchestration frameworks, including open source tools like dagster and DBT or commercial enterprise tools.
- Excellent cross-functional and communication skills, consensus builder.
- Passion for data engineering and for enabling others by making their data easier to access.
