Job description

Teams Phone is a foundational service within Teams, enabling customers to associate traditional phone service into the Teams product and collaborate with more devices and more coworkers. In highly regulated and mission-critical environments, these capabilities must be delivered with strict requirements for security, compliance, reliability, and operational excellence.

As a Software Engineer II, you will lead the design, development, and evolution of Teams Phone services that power critical communication experiences across sovereign, air-gapped, and compliance-sensitive environments. You will partner with engineering teams across Microsoft to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient distributed systems while enabling feature parity with Public Cloud offerings.

This opportunity will allow you to accelerate your cloud engineering expertise, develop deep knowledge of distributed systems and large-scale service operations, build advanced skills in automation, observability, incident management, and AI-powered operational tooling, as well as develop code-based engineering solutions across many services. You will gain end-to-end ownership experience across the service lifecycle while helping shape the future of supporting multiple services teams through automation, data-driven operations, and AI-enabled solutions.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain clean, reliable, testable code using best practices and responsible AI-assisted development while escalating blockers early. Use AI tools responsibly across the SDLC, reviewing and validating AI-generated changes to ensure correctness and maintainability. Work with partner engineering teams, PMs, and experts (privacy, security, SRE) to understand requirements, apply customer feedback/telemetry, and deliver scalable, reliable, user-centric features. Build extensible, maintainable services and features with solid diagnosability, reliability, and production-readiness. Participate in on-call rotations, troubleshoot live-site issues using least-privileged access, and improve TSGs, telemetry, and fixes that reduce future incidents. Contribute to engineering and operational excellence through automation, tooling, documentation, and process improvements.
