VMWare Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a VMware Infrastructure Engineer to support one of our Fortune 250 manufacturing clients. This individual will join a team of 5-6 engineers responsible for a VMware environment consisting of over 3,000 virtual servers.

This role will function as a Tier 3 escalation resource, focused on diagnosing and resolving complex VMware infrastructure issues that have been escalated beyond Tier 1 and Tier 2 support teams. The engineer will partner closely with infrastructure, networking, storage, and server teams to maintain the stability, performance, and scalability of the virtual environment.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Acting as the highest-level VMware support resource for critical incidents and complex troubleshooting efforts

• Troubleshooting issues across vCenter, ESXi, NSX-T, storage, and virtualization layers

• Performing root cause analysis on recurring infrastructure issues and implementing long-term solutions

• Designing, configuring, and optimizing vSphere, vSAN, NSX, and VMware Cloud Foundation environments

• Managing and optimizing datastore clusters and overall virtual infrastructure performance

• Developing scripts and automation solutions for VMware and Windows-based administration tasks

• Supporting Active Directory and Windows server integrations within the VMware ecosystem

• Leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate provisioning, configuration management, and infrastructure deployments

• Identifying opportunities for modernization, automation, and process improvement across the VMware platform

• Participating in infrastructure projects, upgrades, migrations, and platform enhancement initiatives. This role is roughly 65-70hr

• 7+ years of VMware engineering experience in large enterprise environments

• Strong hands-on experience supporting VMware ESXi, vSphere, and vCenter

• Advanced troubleshooting experience serving as a Tier 3 escalation point for VMware-related incidents and infrastructure issues

• Strong Windows Server administration experience

• Scripting experience (PowerShell, Visual Basic, or similar) for automation and operational efficiencies

• Bachelor’s Degree * VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) experience

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience for infrastructure provisioning and configuration management

• Experience with Morpheus or other cloud automation platforms

• Manufacturing industry experience

• Experience supporting Fortune 1000 enterprise environments
