Job description
In this role, you will lead multiple software engineers responsible for the maintenance, modernization, and ongoing evolution of mission-critical administrative systems supporting Allstate Dealer Services. These platforms are essential to business operations, enabling key internal and dealer-facing functions that directly support operational efficiency, revenue generation, and customer satisfaction.
As an Engineering Manager, you will provide leadership across software delivery, technology strategy, application operations, and talent development. You will partner closely with Product Managers, Architects, Engineering Leaders, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable delivery of scalable solutions while maintaining operational excellence across a portfolio of business-critical applications.
This role requires a strong balance of technical leadership and people management. You will be responsible for developing engineering talent, driving modernization initiatives, improving engineering practices, and ensuring teams deliver secure, reliable, and high-quality software solutions., * Leads and participates in knowledge sharing activities and contributes to the overall growth of the engineering organization through mentoring, coaching, and the promotion of engineering best practices.
- Participates in product discovery, portfolio planning, and strategic planning activities, providing technical leadership and helping translate business objectives into scalable technology solutions.
- Leads, coaches, and develops software engineering teams by providing ongoing performance feedback, career development guidance, and growth opportunities.
- Leads and participates in retrospectives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and constructive feedback.
- Partners with architects and technical leaders to establish and evolve the architecture, design, and technical roadmap of products and platforms supporting claims operations.
- Leads and participates in inception, iteration planning, backlog refinement, and prioritization activities in partnership with Product Managers and business stakeholders.
- Provides leadership and oversight across agile delivery teams, ensuring alignment on priorities, execution plans, and delivery objectives.
- Serves as the technical and organizational leader for the team, helping resolve complex technical challenges, removing delivery impediments, and supporting effective decision-making.
- Champions engineering excellence through the adoption of modern software development practices, including automated testing, code quality standards, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and DevOps principles.
- Drives operational excellence by ensuring applications are secure, reliable, scalable, and effectively supported in production environments.
- Collaborates with product, engineering, architecture, security, and business leaders to align technology investments with strategic business objectives.
- Leads cross-functional and cross-product collaboration efforts to ensure consistency, reusability, and alignment across engineering teams and technology portfolios.
- Supports workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, and talent management activities to build and maintain high-performing engineering teams.
- Establishes and monitors key engineering metrics related to delivery, quality, reliability, and team health to drive continuous improvement.
- Acts as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders, providing thought leadership on modern software engineering practices, cloud platforms, distributed systems, and organizational effectiveness., * Responsible for managing, coaching, developing, and evaluating software engineering talent. Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineering teams delivering enterprise-scale applications and services.
- Experience managing software engineers within Agile development environments.
- Strong understanding of modern software architecture, microservices, distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native applications, and DevOps practices.
- Experience delivering solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and related enterprise technologies.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and engineering delivery processes.
- Experience supporting applications in production environments with a focus on reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
- Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading technical planning, estimation, prioritization, and execution activities.
- Proven ability to attract, develop, coach, and retain engineering talent.
- Experience working closely with Product Management and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience leading teams developing applications using C#, .NET, .NET Core, and modern API architectures.
- Experience managing production support and application operations for business-critical systems.
- Experience leading modernization efforts involving cloud platforms, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, and DevOps practices.
- Experience building and leading Agile software engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, observability, application security, and enterprise software development best practices.
- Demonstrated success managing engineers while driving both delivery execution and organizational transformation.
- Experience partnering with business stakeholders in highly operational or transaction-driven environments.
Experience

Compensation offered for this role is 120,000.00 - 193,725.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
