Cloud Modernization Architect - Permanent

Missions

• Lead the assessment, design, and execution of modernization initiatives across the cloud estate, including modernization or migration of workloads currently hosted on Azure VMware Solution (AVS) towards secure, cost-efficient, portable architecture.
• Participate in and lead cloud/hyperscaler landscape discovery and modernization analysis across all cloud/hyperscaler estates.
• Define portable modernization roadmap, drive re-platforming and re-architecting decisions.
• Act as the primary technical authority for migration and modernization initiatives, collaborating closely with CloudOps, SecOps, and Application teams.
• Reduce technical debt, ensure proper tagging between applications and resources, and reduce VMware dependency.
• Improve resiliency and unlock cost and agility benefits.

Tools & Environment

• Assess workloads running on AWS, Azure, and Azure VMware Solution (AVS), including existing Golden AMI-based workloads.
• Use standard migration strategies: rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, retain.
• Lead migration of AVS-hosted VMware workloads off virtualized infrastructure onto portable, cost-optimized solutions toward hyperscalers or on-premises infrastructure.
• Re-architect legacy/monolithic workloads toward portable patterns such as containers, serverless, and managed services.
• Own and evolve AWS/Azure architecture standards and reference designs, including Golden AMI practices toward immutable infrastructure and container-based deployments.
• Drive cloud cost optimization: rightsizing, reserved/savings plans, eliminating legacy over-provisioning.
• Partner with Security team to embed security and compliance checks into CI/CD pipelines from design onward.
• Define Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/IaC orchestrator) and CI/CD pipeline standards for automated modernization at scale.
• Conduct Well-Architected Framework reviews and translate findings into prioritized modernization backlog.
• Provide architectural guidance across Cloud, WAF, PKI, and related security/infrastructure initiatives.
• Identify and champion automation/self-service opportunities to reduce manual toil.

1. 10+ years of experience in cloud engineering/architecture roles, with 4+ years focused on AWS or Azure, including hands-on migration/modernization delivery
2. Demonstrated experience leading application and infrastructure modernization
3. Hands-on experience with VMware virtualization (vSphere/NSX-T) and Azure VMware Solution (AVS), including planning and executing migrations off AVS using tools such as Azure Migrate, HCX, or equivalent
4. Deep expertise in Azure and/or AWS core services as well as modernization-relevant services
5. Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or similar) and CI/CD pipelines supporting automated, repeatable deployments
6. Solid understanding of cloud security practices - vulnerability management, WAF, PKI, IAM governance - and their application to modernized/containerized workloads
7. Demonstrated experience driving cloud cost optimization (rightsizing, reserved capacity, FinOps practices) as part of a modernization program
8. Certifications (Solutions Architect - Associate/Professional, Security Specialty, or equivalent) preferred
9. Hands-on experience with container orchestration and event-driven architectures (SNS/SQS, Kafka) preferred
10. Experience with VMware Cloud, Azure VMware Solution, or similar VM-to-cloud migration programs at scale preferred
11. Familiarity with postal, logistics, or similarly regulated, large-scale enterprise environments is an advantage
12. Knowledge of GDPR or other EU regulatory/compliance considerations preferred
13. Master’s and/or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
