Software Engineer II

Plan, forecast, implement, and identify resource requirements for network backbone infrastructures of moderate complexity. Consult on network connectivity and traffic paths. Assist in developing, deploying, and maintaining AI/ML-enabled applications and services, including model integration, CI/CD, evaluation benchmarks, automation workflows, APIs, and supporting infrastructure for clinical, operational, or research use cases. Implement and support observability, monitoring, and evaluation capabilities for AI-enabled systems, including performance metrics, drift detection, reliability monitoring, feedback collection, and troubleshooting of production issues. Maintain version-controlled code, configuration, datasets, prompts, and deployment artifacts; participate in validation, release management, and governance activities to promote reproducible, secure, and supportable AI/ML solutions., * Works on assignments within a process or set of processes of moderate size, scope, diversity, and/or complexity.

• Performs work thoroughly in a cost-efficient manner and at a high productivity level.
• Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office Package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Core networking: OSI, Ethernet, TCP/IP, CSMA/CD, Layer2 vs Layer3 strengths/weaknesses, and multicast.
• IP addressing: expert IPv4/32bit math, working IPv6/128bit, CIDR, and address types (loopback, unicast, multicast, limited/directed broadcast).
• Routing and switching: routed networks, VLANs, routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF), FEthernet, ACLs, and troubleshooting mediumcomplexity IPv4 routing issues.
• Transport and transportscale tech: QoS, MPLS, Metro Ethernet, DWDM/optical systems, and redundancy protocols (HSRP, Spanning Tree, VRF/VxLAN).
• Devices and services: configure enterprise routers, switches, CSU/DSU, firewalls, content/caching switches, loadbalancers (CSM/ACE), wireless controllers/APs, and administer TCP/IP services (DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP).
• Wireless: design and implement controllerbased Cisco/Juniper/Arista wireless solutions using RF/antenna theory, 802.11a/b/g/n, site surveys, controllers/APs,VoWLAN, outdoor mesh, secure WLAN, and campuscontroller management.
• Monitoring and troubleshooting: use MRTG, Cacti, SmokePing, HP OpenView, CiscoWorks and network analyzers; isolate hardware vs software/firmware/OS vs application and patterned vs nonrepeatable faults.
• Systems and datacenter networking: configure and maintain networked Windows, Linux, Unix systems and support production data centers serving thousands of users.
• Enterprise experience and learning: proven ability configuring production networks of similar scope/size/complexity to Johns Hopkins and a track record of staying current with leadingedge networking and wireless technologies.

Salary Range: Minimum $41.94/hour - Maximum $73.39/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.

• Bachelor’s Degree Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information technology, network engineering, or a related field (Required)
• One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience or one year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
• Minimum 2 Years of Experience 2+ years of experience in network engineering or IT required, including 2years as a Network Engineer I or a position of similar complexity. (Required)
