As an Expert Automation Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in guaranteeing that both new and existing installations meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, and technical performance. Your expertise will ensure that every automation solution is robust, traceable, and future-proof-directly contributing to public safety and environmental stewardship. What You’ll Be Doing

• Oversee the implementation and compliance of automation systems in both new and existing nuclear installations, from study phase through testing and execution.
• Monitor and assess automation and instrumentation systems, ensuring alignment with technical specifications, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
• Evaluate and validate Siemens PLC and SCADA systems, focusing on technical accuracy and operational reliability.
• Apply your expertise in industrial networks, frequency converters, and instrumentation to assess and verify delivered solutions.
• Interpret and review technical documentation, including P&IDs and electrical diagrams, ensuring all solutions meet project and safety requirements.
• Coordinate and participate in regular project meetings, providing clear written reports and technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, maintenance teams, technical services, site supervisors, and external partners to ensure seamless project execution.
• Prepare, monitor, and coordinate test and inspection plans, ensuring all changes and decisions are thoroughly documented and traceable.
• Act as a technical point of contact, facilitating effective communication between disciplines and stakeholders in a safety-critical environment.
• Maintain a strong on-site presence, regularly visiting construction sites and installations to oversee technical execution and compliance.
• Ensure all work is conducted with a relentless focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Automation engineering (Intermediate level or higher)
• Siemens PLC and SCADA systems (Intermediate)
• Industrial networks and frequency converters (Intermediate)
• Instrumentation (Intermediate)
• Reading and interpreting electrical diagrams and P&IDs (Intermediate)
• Microsoft Excel (Intermediate)
• Quality-oriented approach to technical work
• Knowledge of conventional and nuclear safety (Nice to have)
• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills

Language Proficiency

• Professional proficiency in English is required.
• Additional language skills (Dutch or French) are a plus.

Other Requirements

• Freelance position with a project duration of 4 months, based in the Antwerpen region (partial remote possible).
• Ability to be regularly present on-site at various installations.
• Preparedness to undergo medical screening for work in controlled zones.
