Manufacturing Engineer - Advanced Electrotechnical Systems

Our client is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to help move sophisticated electromechanical equipment from engineering development into reliable, scalable production. This position will work across manufacturing, product engineering, quality, supply chain, suppliers, and contract manufacturing partners to establish production methods for systems that may incorporate high-speed rotating equipment, electric machines, power electronics, controls, precision mechanical assemblies, and thermal/fluid-management technologies. The engineer will be highly hands-on, with responsibility for manufacturing readiness, process development, tooling, production builds, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has a strong history of industrializing complex products and can balance manufacturability, quality, cost, schedule, and production scalability.

• Lead manufacturing engineering activities as products progress from prototype development through pilot, validation, production launch, and subsequent scale-up.
• Evaluate product designs for manufacturability and assembly, working with engineering teams to improve tolerances, assembly methods, inspection requirements, serviceability, and production cost.
• Establish manufacturing process flows, assembly sequences, routings, capacity requirements, and production strategies for complex electromechanical equipment.
• Develop or specify fixtures, tooling, gauges, production equipment, and specialized manufacturing aids required for repeatable assembly.
• Establish methods for precision assembly operations, including alignment, balancing, inspection, leak testing, pressure testing, and functional testing where applicable.
• Create and maintain manufacturing documentation such as work instructions, process specifications, quality checkpoints, control plans, and operator training materials.
• Lead PFMEA activities, manufacturing-readiness reviews, process validation, and risk-reduction efforts before production release.
• Work directly on prototype, pilot, validation, and production builds to identify process issues and improve manufacturability.
• Investigate defects, yield losses, process variation, rework, and assembly problems using structured root-cause and corrective-action methods.
• Analyze manufacturing data and implement improvements to throughput, first-pass yield, labor content, quality, safety, and overall production cost.
• Support selection, qualification, and development of contract manufacturers and other external production partners.
• Coordinate manufacturing process transfers, including documentation, tooling, training, process controls, and production-launch support.
• Partner with suppliers and internal engineering teams to resolve manufacturing and component-quality issues.
• Contribute to production capacity planning, factory layout, staffing requirements, production-test capabilities, and future manufacturing expansion.
• Identify opportunities for automation, process simplification, cycle-time reduction, and other improvements that support increased production volume.
• Provide hands-on technical support at manufacturing and supplier locations as needed during production launches, process transfers, and troubleshooting activities.

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience, with a strong preference for candidates with 10+ years of progressively responsible experience.
• Background with complex electromechanical or industrial products is required; experience with equipment such as compressors, turbines, pumps, motors, generators, electric machines, or other rotating machinery
• Experience with active magnetic bearings, precision rotor assemblies, alignment, balancing, leak testing, pressure testing, or performance testing.
• Demonstrated experience taking complex productsfrom prototype/development through production launch and manufacturing scale-up.
• Strong hands-on experience with NPI, DFM, DFA, manufacturing process development, tooling, fixtures, and production-readiness activities.
• Practical experience developing manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, PFMEA/PFMEA-related processes, control plans, process specifications, and production metrics.
• Experience supporting prototype, pilot, validation, and production builds and resolving manufacturing problems directly on the production floor.
• Experience with contract manufacturing, outsourced production, manufacturing transfer, or supplier production launch.
• Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, process validation, structured root-cause analysis,and continuous improvement.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing-planning processes.
• Exposure to power electronics, PCB assemblies, sensors, controls, high-voltage integration, liquid cooling, thermal management, or fluid-handling systems is preferred.
• Experience with precision machining, castings, electric-machine assembly, automation, or high-volume production-system development is advantageous.
• Experience with supplier qualification and process-capability assessment is a plus.
• Lean Six Sigma certification is preferred.
• Must be comfortable working across office, laboratory, manufacturing-floor, supplier, and contract-manufacturing environments.
• Must be willing to provide hands-on support during assembly, testing, production builds, and manufacturing-development activities.
• Occasional travel may be required for supplier development, manufacturing transfer, production launches, and troubleshooting.
• The position may occasionally require handling equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
