Lead Principal Platform Software Engineer

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is building platforms and tools that enable engineering teams to build, test, deploy, and operate cloud services at scale.

As a Lead Principal Platform Software Engineer , you will provide technical leadership for major platform capabilities that improve the developer experience across OCI. You will architect and build distributed systems, services, APIs, and tools while working across teams to solve complex engineering problems.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role with a strong focus on AI-native software engineering . You will help rethink how software is designed, developed, tested, reviewed, operated, and maintained using AI and agentic development techniques-while maintaining the security, reliability, and engineering rigor required for OCI.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, development, and operation of scalable platform capabilities used by OCI engineering teams.
• Drive complex technical initiatives across services, APIs, developer tooling, CI/CD, infrastructure, and user-facing experiences.
• Remain hands-on with implementation, prototyping, debugging, code review, and operational problem solving.
• Establish engineering patterns and standards for architecture, testing, observability, security, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Identify recurring developer pain points and turn them into reusable platform capabilities.
• Lead through influence, build consensus on major technical decisions, and mentor senior engineers across the organization.
• Define and demonstrate effective AI-native engineering practices across the software development lifecycle.
• Apply AI-assisted and agentic techniques to implementation, testing, code review, debugging, documentation, operations, and software maintenance.
• Identify opportunities where AI can simplify or automate engineering workflows rather than simply accelerate existing processes.
• Establish patterns and guardrails that enable engineers to use AI effectively while protecting correctness, security, privacy, and maintainability.
• Help shape the technical strategy for how AI and agentic systems change developer platforms and software engineering within OCI.

• BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Go, C#, or similar languages.
• Deep experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and services.
• Proven experience delivering complex systems across the full software development lifecycle.
• Experience architecting highly available, scalable, and maintainable systems spanning multiple services or components.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, data stores, operating systems, testing, CI/CD, and observability.
• Experience operating mission-critical production services and troubleshooting complex system problems.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership across engineers and teams without direct management authority.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Practical experience applying AI-assisted development techniques and critically validating AI-generated code, tests, designs, or analysis., * Technical leadership experience with large-scale cloud services, developer platforms, or engineering productivity systems.
• Experience developing and operating services on OCI, AWS, Azure, or another public cloud.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, and Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform.
• Strong Linux, networking, SQL, and NoSQL knowledge.
• Experience building AI-enabled developer tools, coding agents, agentic workflows, or other AI-assisted engineering systems.
• Experience establishing technical practices adopted across multiple teams.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers, developing technical leaders, and raising the engineering talent bar.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $306,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
