Interim Software Engineering Specialist

We are recruiting for multiple DV Cleared Software and Platform Engineers to join specialist engineering teams delivering highly secure and technically challenging solutions within a national security environment.

There are multiple opportunities available across different technical disciplines and seniority levels, so we are interested in speaking with engineers from a range of software, platform, DevOps and infrastructure engineering backgrounds.

The environment is heavily focused on software defined infrastructure, automation and modern engineering practices. Engineers will work within highly automated environments where infrastructure, deployment and security controls are increasingly defined programmatically.

You do not need experience across every technology listed below. Different teams require different technical specialisms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver secure software and engineering platform capabilities.

• Build, maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines to support reliable and repeatable software delivery.

• Implement Infrastructure as Code and configuration management practices.

• Develop automation to reduce manual processes and improve engineering efficiency.

• Integrate security controls throughout software development and deployment processes.

• Support engineering teams with tooling, technical guidance and engineering best practice.

• Work across software development, security, infrastructure and operations teams.

• Maintain and improve source control, build systems, deployment frameworks and engineering tooling.

• Implement automated testing and modern software engineering practices.

• Support platform performance, reliability, troubleshooting and incident resolution.

• Contribute to technical standards, documentation and engineering governance.

• Share knowledge and, at senior levels, provide coaching and mentoring to other engineers.

Technical Skills

We are interested in candidates with experience across some of the following:

• Software development using C++, C#, Python, Java or JavaScript
• CI/CD using Jenkins, GitLab or similar technologies
• Git and GitOps
• Terraform, Ansible, Chef or Puppet
• Kubernetes and Helm
• AWS, Azure, GCP or VCF
• Docker and containerised environments
• Linux and Microsoft Windows
• SQL and database technologies
• Prometheus, Grafana and ELK
• ArgoCD or Flux
• Kafka or NiFi
• Nexus, Artifactory or Harbor
• IAM, OAuth, OIDC and secrets management
• Automated testing frameworks
• Networking including DNS, TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls and VPNs
• TLS, SSL, PKI and encryption technologies

• Current DV Clearance is essential.

• Strong hands on engineering experience within software development, platform engineering, DevOps, cloud, infrastructure automation or a related discipline.

• Experience working within modern engineering environments using automation and CI/CD practices.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, security and operational teams.

• Comfortable working within highly secure and regulated environments.

• Able to work onsite 5 days per week in London, Cheltenham, Ipswich or Manchester.
