Job description

We are seeking an experienced Python Engineer to join a critical technology transformation programme within a major UK public sector organisation.

The role will focus on helping establish a secure and scalable Python package and dependency management capability for development teams.

You will work across Python, package management, CI/CD and platform engineering, helping to develop secure and reusable solutions that improve the developer experience. JFrog Artifactory is currently being considered as part of the wider platform capability., * Develop and maintain secure Python package and dependency management solutions.

  • Implement curated package repositories and controlled publishing workflows.
  • Work with pip, PyPI, Conda and enterprise artefact repositories.
  • Integrate package management with CI/CD pipelines and wider platform services.
  • Develop reusable templates and automated/self-service capabilities for developers.
  • Help establish secure and reproducible development environments.
  • Troubleshoot developer and platform issues, reducing reliance on manual workarounds.
  • Support appropriate software supply-chain security controls.
  • Work closely with development teams and pilot users to understand requirements and improve the platform.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and support knowledge transfer.

Requirements

  • Strong Python engineering background.
  • Strong understanding of Python package and dependency management, including pip, PyPI and/or Conda.
  • Experience with internal package publishing and enterprise repositories.
  • Hands-on experience with JFrog Artifactory or a similar artefact/package management platform.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD and platform engineering.
  • Experience working across Windows and/or Linux environments.
  • Understanding of enterprise security and governance requirements around software dependencies.
  • Comfortable working in a discovery-led environment where requirements may evolve.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Active SC Clearance is essential.
  • Desirable Experience
  • Experience building developer platforms or golden paths.
  • Knowledge of software supply-chain security, vulnerability scanning, SBOMs or provenance.
  • Experience with containers and reproducible environments.
  • Experience working within UK Government, public sector or other highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of GitHub/GitLab or enterprise CI/CD platforms.
  • Working Environment
  • Predominantly remote
  • Occasional travel to London and/or Manchester
  • Working as part of an integrated customer and delivery team.

You should have experience with enterprise package management solutions such as Artifactory, understand CI/CD and developer workflows, and be comfortable using your experience to help shape a solution where the requirements are still evolving.
