Principal UNIX/Linux System Administrator - Business Availability & Disaster Rec

The Principal Business Availability & Disaster Recovery Engineer leads the design, validation, and improvement of high-availability and disaster recovery solutions across the customer’s Unix/Linux/AIX infrastructure. The role splits its time between the Business Availability team, which designs highly available Linux and Unix infrastructure and reduces reliance on planned maintenance windows, and the Disaster Recovery practice, which validates that Linux and Unix solutions meet recovery objectives. Both halves rest on a strong background in Linux, Unix, and AIX systems administration, which the role also draws on directly for hands-on assessment, troubleshooting, and remediation of availability and recovery issues. Core Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy

• Leads Business Availability and Disaster Recovery strategy for Unix/Linux/AIX systems across the account.

• Ensures availability and DR strategy align with corporate business requirements and objectives.

Business & Systems Alignment

• Applies extensive knowledge of business availability requirements to systems design, development, and support.
• Translates long-term business requirements into systems and infrastructure design decisions.

Business Availability Responsibilities

• Assesses and documents current-state Linux and Unix solution architectures.

• Designs and recommends high-availability Linux and Unix solutions, including Red Hat clustering, KVM, and AIX environments, aligned with business and technical requirements.

• Develops migration strategies, implementation roadmaps, and associated bills of materials for Linux and Unix environments.

• Ensures proposed Linux/Unix solutions integrate effectively with the Disaster Recovery practice.

• Collaborates with account teams to gather operational knowledge and support transition planning.

Disaster Recovery Responsibilities

• Leads design reviews to validate that Linux and Unix solutions meet recovery objectives.

• Owns DR documentation, runbooks, and supporting artifacts for Linux and Unix systems.

• Coordinates and executes planned DR testing activities.

• Monitors and evaluates DR infrastructure capacity for Linux and Unix systems across on-premises and cloud environments.

Supporting Systems Administration Background

• Provides systems administration support (installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, applications, and connectivity) for Linux and Unix environments across multiple locations, as needed to support availability and DR objectives.

• Advises on programming tools, database systems, and networks relevant to Linux/Unix environments.

• Coordinates with clients and stakeholders on recommendations to address availability and reliability issues.

• BA/BS degree and 8+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Master’s degree preferred.

• Expert-level expertise in Linux systems administration and enterprise infrastructure design.

• Proven ability to lead technical teams and advise across the organization on complex, business-critical issues.

• Experience with Red Hat Linux, including KVM and clustering.

• Experience with AIX.

• Familiarity with Unix.

• Familiarity with VMware.

• Familiarity with disaster recovery and high availability in cloud environments - Oracle OCI and Microsoft Azure.

• U.S. Citizenship and U.S. residency required.
