Network Production Engineer, Hardware

Meta is seeking a senior Network Production Engineer with deep hardware expertise to help define and drive the future of Meta’s Edge Network infrastructure. Meta’s Edge Network serves as the ingress point for all customer internet traffic across the entire family of Meta apps, making the performance, stability, and efficiency of our hardware and software stack mission-critical. In this role, you will own the end-to-end strategy for hardware selection, validation, and lifecycle management across our edge fleet, partnering with internal engineering teams and external vendors to ensure we are deploying the highest-quality, most cost-effective hardware at scale. You will set the technical direction for rack-level design, server hardware evaluation, and production validation processes, while identifying opportunities to drive step-change improvements in total cost of ownership, thermal efficiency, and network performance. This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role that requires both deep technical expertise in network and server hardware and the organizational influence to shape roadmaps across multiple engineering teams., 1. Define and own the long-term hardware strategy for Meta’s Edge Network fleet, including server, rack, switching, power, and cooling architecture

1. Lead end-to-end hardware evaluation and validation efforts from initial qualification and benchmarking through production deployment at scale
2. Identify and drive adoption of emerging hardware technologies that deliver step-change improvements in network performance, energy efficiency, and total cost of ownership
3. Establish extensible technical standards and evaluation frameworks for hardware qualification that are adopted consistently across network infrastructure teams
4. Partner with software and network engineering teams to ensure hardware designs meet the performance and reliability requirements of mission-critical edge services
5. Engage with external hardware vendors and industry partners to influence roadmaps, negotiate trade-offs, and accelerate delivery of next-generation edge hardware
6. Develop and operationalize reliability and quality metrics for the edge hardware fleet, identifying systemic issues and driving architectural improvements to prevent whole classes of failures
7. Mentor other engineers across the organization on hardware evaluation methodologies, rack design principles, and production validation best practices
8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software infrastructure, supply chain, and data center operations to align hardware roadmaps with broader organizational priorities
9. Communicate complex hardware architecture decisions and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, producing reference-quality design documents and strategic plans

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
2. 12+ years of experience in hands-on hardware engineering, network infrastructure, or data center systems engineering
3. 12+ years of experience across the full hardware development lifecycle, from sample evaluation and benchmarking through mass production and fleet-scale deployment
4. 12+ years of experience working with server and network hardware components including CPUs, NICs, switching ASICs, power distribution units, and cooling systems
5. Experience defining hardware architecture standards and driving adoption across multiple engineering teams or organizations
6. Experience managing vendor relationships, influencing external hardware roadmaps, and negotiating technical and commercial trade-offs at scale, 17. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
7. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
8. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
9. Experience designing or validating hardware for high-throughput, latency-sensitive network applications such as load balancing, DDoS mitigation, or traffic engineering at internet scale
10. Experience with rack-level thermal and power design, including airflow modeling, power budgeting, and high-density cooling solutions for edge or data center environments
11. Experience developing or contributing to automated hardware qualification and regression testing frameworks that accelerate production validation cycles
