MES & Manufacturing Systems Specialist

We are seeking a MES & Manufacturing Systems Specialist to support the daily operation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and related shop-floor applications. This role helps maintain stable production operations, accurate production data, and product traceability.

The specialist will work closely with Production, Quality, Warehouse, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to support coordinated operations across MES, SAP, SCADA, and shop-floor automation systems, and help prepare and launch systems for new programs, equipment, and production lines.

Key Responsibilities

1. Daily MES Support and Troubleshooting

Provide daily MES support and resolve issues involving user access and permissions, operator terminals, production order execution, material scanning, production reporting, defect recording, label printing, and product traceability. Prioritize issues based on their impact on production and drive timely resolution.

1. Production Incident Response and Resolution

Respond promptly to system incidents affecting production lines, diagnose faults, and restore normal system operation. Track issues through closure, identify and document root causes and corrective actions, and reduce recurring incidents.

1. SCADA and Equipment Data Collection Support

Support data connectivity and use across MES, SCADA, and equipment data collection platforms. Help troubleshoot issues involving machine status, production counts, downtime, and quality data. Work with automation and equipment engineers on issues involving machine controls or PLCs.

1. New Program, Equipment, and Production Line Launch Support

Participate in requirements definition, system configuration, testing, user acceptance testing, and launch support for new programs and production line changes. Work with the SAP PP specialist and master data owners to validate MES configurations and mappings for production lines, work centers, operations, and operator terminals, as well as label configurations and traceability rules.

1. Shop-Floor Automation and Logistics Systems Support

Support workflows and interfaces between MES, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and other shop-floor applications in line with the plant’s systems roadmap. Collaborate with the warehouse systems owner, automation teams, and vendors to troubleshoot cross-system issues and verify resolutions.

1. User Training, Documentation, and Continuous Improvement

Train shop-floor users and maintain operating instructions, troubleshooting guides, and a support knowledge base. Gather and analyze business requirements to improve systems and processes, reduce manual recordkeeping, and increase data accuracy and operational efficiency. Help validate data used in operational reports, including production output, good-unit counts, defect counts, and downtime.

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Automation, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Hands-on experience implementing or supporting MES in a manufacturing environment, with the ability to troubleshoot common shop-floor issues independently and coordinate the resolution of complex issues.
• Understanding of core manufacturing processes, including production execution, material consumption, production reporting, quality recording, and product traceability.
• Ability to investigate issues using application logs, basic SQL queries, or interface monitoring tools.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with operators, business owners, technical teams, and vendors, and take ownership of issues through resolution.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English during daily plant operations and clearly document issues and resolutions.

Key to being successful in this role:

• Experience in automotive components or other discrete manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with SCADA, industrial data collection, or data exchange between PLCs and higher-level systems.
