Data Analyst

We are looking to appoint a research data analyst to support the development and analysis of a the Connected West Yorkshire dataset in Bradford, a whole-population linked database including health, social care, and education records. You will be responsible for preparing data for research use, supporting colleagues to do good quality research, quantitative analysis and writing up of research papers and in the planning of new research studies. Previous experience with the use of R, Python and Transactional SQL (T-SQL) will be an advantage, as these tools are used predominantly in the preparation of research datasets., This role will be based within the Connected West Yorkshire team who will provide technical and data analytics support. We are a collaborative and inclusive team that does high impact applied research. We aim to improve the health of people in Bradford and contribute important new findings to knowledge about determinants of health. • Experience of developing processes for collecting and reporting on raw data
• Experience of working in NHS and/or other Public Sector Information Management, or in an academic/research context
• Experience of designing, developing and maintaining databases in a major RDBMS package, * Evidence of innovative use of technology
• Evidence of collaborative working with technical and non-technical staff in same or other organisations
• Experience of data quality/data integrity monitoring and improvement, * Ability to communicate highly complex information clearly and simply to information users in a research/service setting and understand and translate their information requirements
• Ability to help information users appreciate the value and purpose of research project data
• Ability to work logically with great attention to detail
• Advanced user of modern PC environment and associated desktop software productivity tools for data extraction, analysis, transformation and presentation, in particular SQL Server Management Studio, Microsoft Visual Studio, Excel Outlook and Word
• Advanced skills in T-SQL
• Advanced keyboard skills to enable the extraction and manipulation of complex data at speed with accuracy
• Ability to plan and organise complex programmes of work for self and the Data and Research Team, some of which will be ongoing and may require adjustment to accommodate changing demands and situations, * Knowledge of ETL methods, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
• Knowledge of business intelligence (BI) development applications and tools
• Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
• Advanced understanding of the principles of data management to degree level or equivalent
• Detailed knowledge of NHS or other public sector data standards and NHS or other public sector Information Management issues at degree-level or equivalent
• Detailed, expert-level knowledge of SQL, including T-SQL, * Knowledge of Data Protection legislation
• Understanding of clinical coding terminology
• Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services, scripting (i.e. PowerShell) and statistical packages (R/Python), * Degree level qualification in a numerate/computing discipline or equivalent experience
• Evidence of continuing professional development, * High levels of motivation, commitment and resourcefulness
• Lateral thinking and problem solving
• Effective communication with all levels of staff both verbally and in writing
• Team player who can also work independently on own initiative
