Jr. Applications Engineer IRES - SSFB/HSV

The Jr. Applications Engineer supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The candidate will:

• Administer, maintain, and support the enterprise-wide SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted and StruxureWare Data Center Expert applications and platforms, ensuring they are properly configured, upgraded, patched, and DISA STIG compliant.

• Be responsible for the overall health of these environments, which includes optimizing and documenting infrastructure, designing custom dashboards, creating special event maps, assisting systems and network administrators with threshold and alert management, and delivering actionable performance data to infrastructure and engineering teams.

• Provide On-call support on a rotating basis and respond to SolarWinds application degradation/outages within 1 hour.

• Be able to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment

• Be able to interface with military and government customers in a professional manner.

Basic Requirements:

• Must have 2, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience

o May be reduced with completion of advanced education

• Must have 1, or more, years of directly related IT administration experience

• Must be proficient and experienced with windows server operating system 2022 or higher to include installing Microsoft Security patches, troubleshooting and evaluating server logs.

• Must have a technical mindset with strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for diagnosing and resolving platform and application degradations and outages.

• Must be knowledgeable and understand standard protocols, specifically SNMPv3, Syslog, ICMP, HTTPS, TCP/IP, SMTP, DNS, SSH, TFTP and WMI.

• Must have basic knowledge of SQL server 2022 or higher and SQL queries preferably SolarWinds Query Language (SWQL) for backend platform troubleshooting.

• Must be proficient with PowerShell, Python, or Bash to build custom API integrations, automate node provisioning, or generate specialized application templates.

• Must understand networking concepts such as IP Subnetting, TCP/IP, routing/switching, VLANs, and basic packet analysis.

• Must have experience with ticketing systems such as Remedy/Helix.

• Must have experience, or demonstrate basic skills, with Linux operating systems.

• Must be willing, and able, to provide On-call support on a rotating basis and respond to SolarWinds application degradation/outages within 1 hour.

• Must be able to support 24/7 MDA operations.

• Must have a current DoW 8570 IAT Level II certification (ex: CompTia Security+)

• Must have an active DoW Secret Security Clearance

Desired Requirements:

• Have hands-on experience configuring and managing in one, or more, of the following: SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted core modules to include NPM (Network Performance Monitor), SAM (Server & Application Monitor), NCM (Network Configuration Manager), NTA (NetFlow Traffic Analyzer), IPAM (IP Address Manager) and VoIP & Network Quality Manager (VNQM).

• Have 1, or more, Container & Kubernetes Certifications: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), or Red Hat Certified Specialist in Containers and Kubernetes.

• Have a deep understanding of Cloud Computing architectures (AWS GovCloud, Microsoft Azure Government) within DoD IL5/IL6 boundaries.
