Software Engineer III

CLX Engineering is seeking a Software Engineer III focused on building and supporting industrial software applications that drive airport, logistics, and material handling operations. This is a software engineering role with occasional field responsibilities to support deployment, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer needs. The ideal candidate is an experienced developer who can independently design and deliver reliable, scalable industrial applications, guide technical decisions, and solve complex integration challenges across automation systems, databases, and operational platforms.

This role will work closely with the Software Engineering Manager and software development team to provide senior-level technical ownership for CMMS-focused initiatives, industrial applications, integrations, and backend system functionality supporting automated operations. The Software Engineer III will help establish sound technical approaches, strengthen development practices, and support the growth of other engineers while remaining actively involved in hands-on development. As part of a small, collaborative company, this person must be comfortable wearing multiple hats, stepping into adjacent needs, and contributing wherever their expertise creates value. What You’ll Do

• Lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of complex industrial software applications and backend services
• Build scalable, maintainable applications using C#, Python, and modern .NET technologies
• Design and maintain robust APIs, integrations, and database-driven applications
• Own significant components of CMMS-related software initiatives and operational application development
• Partner with controls engineers, project managers, operations teams, and customers to define and deliver software integration solutions
• Lead software architecture discussions, provide thoughtful code reviews, and influence development planning
• Diagnose and resolve complex software issues across production and testing environments
• Establish and maintain technical documentation, development standards, design patterns, and deployment procedures
• Plan and support application deployments, upgrades, performance improvements, and lifecycle maintenance
• Drive software modernization and technical improvement initiatives across industrial automation
• Provide occasional onsite support for software deployment, commissioning, system integration, and complex troubleshooting
• Adapt to changing project needs and take on responsibilities beyond a narrow software specialty when needed to support successful delivery, * MongoDB
• Industrial automation or manufacturing environments
• Exposure to PLC-connected systems or industrial operational software
• Understanding of CMMS platforms or maintenance management systems
• Experience supporting software in airport, logistics, or material handling industries

• Demonstrated experience designing and delivering enterprise or industrial software applications
• Advanced understanding of software architecture, object-oriented programming, design patterns, and application lifecycle management
• Strong experience designing REST APIs, integrations, backend services, and data flows
• Strong working knowledge of source control, CI/CD practices, and development tools such as Git and Azure DevOps
• Proven ability to lead technical work and collaborate across software, controls, project, and operational teams
• Advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving abilities
• Strong communication, technical documentation, code review, and mentoring skills
• Willingness and ability to travel to customer or project sites occasionally based on business and project needs
• Ability to work occasionally in active industrial or construction environments that may include noise, heat, cold, dust, uneven surfaces, and required personal protective equipment
• Ability to perform occasional physical activities associated with field support, including standing or walking for extended periods, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, reaching, and lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds
• Flexibility to balance hands-on development, technical leadership, field support, and other business needs in a small-company environment
