Embedded Software Engineer

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for a June 2027 start date. The Embedded Software Engineer will develop embedded software/firmware for high performance, real-time feeder capacitor bank controls used in the electrical power distribution industry. The Embedded Software Engineer will collaborate with other Embedded Software Engineers as well as systems engineering, hardware engineering, and QA to design and implement features for power distribution products. The position will be part of a multi-disciplined engineering team (software, hardware, and test) at Eaton’s Thomas A. Edison Technical Center in Franksville, WI. Essential Functions:

• Implement features for power system intelligent electronic devices, including power system protection algorithms, system diagnostics/prognostics, communication protocols, cybersecurity, and other relay, control and monitoring functions using C/C++ on Linux.
• Work with functional managers, systems engineering, lead embedded software engineers to distill product/system requirements/use cases to firmware designs/stories, developing module & system level code, and unit tests.
• Participate in tasks related to new product development/feature development including planning, task/story estimation, design, programming, unit testing, peer review, integration and release
• Design and implement unit test in support of developer testing activities and integration with Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines
• Participate and lead design and code reviews

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, or active enrollment in an Engineering degree program with an anticipated graduation date of May 2027 or earlier., * One or more years of experience in embedded software development is a plus
• Experience developing using C / C++
• Familiarity with Linux and Virtualized environments.
• Familiarity with using or designing systems that use network protocols such as Serial, TCP/IP, Ethernet
• Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design (OOD) principles, secure coding and cybersecurity best practices
• Model designs using UML or similar methodologies as appropriate
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum concepts
• Experience using SDLC management tools in a team environment (e.g. Jira, Git, etc.)
