Security Engineer

The Senior Security Engineer - Akamai & Edge Security Services is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of enterprise edge security, web application protection, CDN services, and secure application delivery platforms. This role provides technical leadership in protecting internet-facing applications, APIs, digital services, and critical business data through the effective use of Akamai, Imperva, cloud-native security technologies, and security automation. The position serves as a subject matter expert for application security, cloud security, web application firewalls (WAF), bot management, DDoS mitigation, certificate management, DNS services, and secure software delivery. Working closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Networking, Cloud, DevOps, and Business teams, this role helps ensure the confidentiality, integrity, availability, and resilience of enterprise systems and data.

Security Engineering & Platform Administration Administer, configure, and optimize Akamai security services including: Kona Site Defender Web Application Firewall (WAF) Bot Manager Premier Adaptive Security Engine Account Protector Client Reputation DDoS Protection Services Related Edge Security Services Lead administration of Imperva Website Security, including website onboarding, policy management, monitoring, data protection controls, privacy configurations, and origin integrations. Design, implement, and maintain security controls that protect enterprise applications, APIs, websites, and digital services. Analyze, develop, and configure security technologies across cloud, on-premises, and colocation environments. Develop and enforce engineering security policies, standards, and best practices. Develop and enforce data security policies, standards, and regulatory controls. WAF, Bot Protection & Threat Mitigation Configure and optimize managed and custom WAF protections, including: API Request Constraints Rate Limiting IP Restrictions Geographic Restrictions Access Control Lists (ACLs) Custom Security Rules Slow POST Protections Browser-Based Controls Develop and maintain bot mitigation strategies utilizing behavioral analytics, bot scoring, allowlists, denylists, and automated enforcement actions. Monitor, analyze, and respond to: DDoS attacks Credential stuffing attacks Account takeover attempts Automated abuse and scraping activity Application-layer security threats Continuously evaluate telemetry, traffic patterns, threat intelligence, and security analytics to improve detection capabilities while minimizing false positives. CDN, DNS & Edge Services Support and maintain: Akamai Property Manager Global Traffic Manager (GTM) Cloudlets SiteShield Akamai DNS Services CDN acceleration and optimization platforms Implement caching strategies, origin offload improvements, geographic traffic steering, load balancing, failover configurations, and performance optimization initiatives. Deploy and support Akamai Cloudlet capabilities such as: Edge Redirector Phase Release Traffic Management Services Lead the secure design and implementation of internet-facing application delivery solutions.

Sponsorship not available., Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience. 5+ years of experience developing, implementing, and supporting enterprise security technologies. 5+ years of experience supporting web application security, CDN services, edge security platforms, or related technologies. Hands-on experience with Akamai security technologies or comparable WAF/CDN platforms. Strong understanding of, DNS Architecture Global Traffic Management SSL/TLS Encryption Certificate Management API Security OWASP Top 10 Linux and Windows environments CDN Operations and Optimization Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Infrastructure-as-Code, and Security-as-Code practices. Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages, including: Python Java JavaScript C# C/C++ Shell Scripting PowerShell Experience implementing data protection controls and compliance requirements such as GDPR and CCPA. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
