Data Center Field System Engineer (L2)

The Data Center Field System Engineer (L2) is responsible for designing, coordinating, validating and optimizing infrastructure deployment activities within enterprise data center environments. The role supports complex infrastructure integration projects involving compute, storage, networking, power distribution and advanced cooling technologies.

The position exercises independent judgment in evaluating deployment methodologies, troubleshooting infrastructure issues, validating system performance and ensuring alignment with technical architecture standards and operational objectives.

This role serves as a technical lead for deployment activities, providing guidance to junior technical staff while collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, operations and project stakeholders to ensure successful infrastructure delivery. The primary objective of this role is to analyze, engineer, validate and optimize data center deployment solutions while minimizing operational risk, performance issues and deployment delays.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Engineering & Deployment

• Coordinate and oversee enterprise data center infrastructure deployments
• Interpret technical drawings, rack elevations, and deployment documentation
• Validate infrastructure configurations, deployment standards, and implementation procedures
• Analyze rack density, airflow, and infrastructure optimization strategies

Systems Integration & Technical Analysis

• Perform systems integration analysis and deployment validation
• Troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment-related technical issues
• Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions
• Validate deployments against engineering and operational standards

Structured Cabling & Network Infrastructure

• Validate structured cabling implementations for fiber and copper infrastructure
• Perform fiber testing and network connectivity validation using diagnostic tools
• Evaluate infrastructure redundancy and cable management standards

Advanced Cooling & Power Infrastructure

• Support deployment and validation of DX and direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems
• Analyze airflow optimization and thermal management performance
• Validate rack-level power distribution and redundancy configurations

System Deployment & Automation

• Support OS deployment, imaging, firmware management and infrastructure validation
• Identify deployment automation and process improvement opportunities
• Maintain deployment documentation and technical standards

Technical Leadership & Coordination

• Provide technical guidance to junior technical staff
• Serve as a technical escalation point for deployment issues
• Coordinate with engineering, operations and project teams on infrastructure delivery initiatives

Health & Safety Responsibilities

• Ensure infrastructure deployment activities comply with applicable data center operational, environmental, and safety standards
• Promote operational risk awareness and infrastructure compliance best practices
• Evaluate deployment methodologies to minimize operational disruptions and infrastructure risk exposure
• Support compliance with power, cooling, and equipment handling standards within enterprise data center environments
• Identify, document and escalate operational risks, infrastructure concerns and compliance gaps

• Minimum 2+ years of experience supporting enterprise data center infrastructure deployments, systems integration or infrastructure engineering environments
• Strong understanding of server, storage, networking, and rack infrastructure architecture
• Experience analyzing and validating structured cabling environments including fiber and copper infrastructure
• Experience utilizing fiber testing and diagnostic tools, including Fluke testing equipment
• Working knowledge of power distribution architecture, redundancy models and rack-level infrastructure design
• Knowledge of advanced cooling methodologies including DX airflow management and direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems
• Experience supporting operating system deployment, imaging platforms, firmware management, and infrastructure validation processes
• Ability to analyze technical drawings, engineering schematics MOPs, and deployment documentation
• Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis and infrastructure problem-solving capabilities
• Experience with deployment automation, scripting or infrastructure management tools
• Familiarity with enterprise networking concepts, infrastructure monitoring and systems integration best practices
• Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure deployment projects within colocation or hyperscale data center environments
• Ability to independently prioritize technical issues and recommend infrastructure optimization strategies
